Notes From the Top
Dear Families,

It is natural, and expected really, that during this Thanksgiving season we give some thought to how gratitude fits into our lives.

In reading up on this topic come to find out that there's a whole host of reasons why we should make gratitude a daily practice -- research has shown that being thankful on a daily basis and, for the little things as well as the big things in our lives, confers a whole list of health benefits, from improved immune systems, to feelings of connectedness, even higher team morale. Being grateful boosts our feelings of well-being, makes us a better friend to others and even boosts grades!

It's science, but also common sense: Choosing to focus on good things makes you feel better than focusing on bad things. The Stoic philosopher Epictetus said "He is a man of sense who does not grieve for what he has not, but rejoices in what he has.

This research is even published in the journal Cerebral Cortex which concludes that "gratitude stimulates the hypothalamus (a key part of the brain that regulates stress) and the ventral tegmental area (part of our "reward circuitry" that produces the sensation of pleasure.

Best wishes for a Thanksgiving Holiday filled with gratitude and well-being.

Kind regards,
John Chistolini
Interim Head of School
Best wishes,
Nicole Bradeen

Parents, Take Note!
  • Dear CLCS Families,

We NEED YOUR HELP!    We need you, your friends and grandparents at two (2) community meetings about our new school in Bartlett Place-Roxbury DEC. 9th and DEC. 16th

All the CLCS families were extremely helpful in emailing and calling the Mayor Walsh and other City officials.  Your outpouring of support led to a productive meeting with Mayor Walsh, which moved us to the final step in approval:  community meetings.  Now we really need your voice and presence at these community meetings as we move towards community and City approval of our new school!   Finally, parent voices will be heard.

Dec 9th Public Meeting at 6PM -  Shelburne Community Center (2730 Washington Street)
We need 100 or more families and friends to demonstrate your support at this meeting.

Dec 16th Public Meeting at 6PM -  Location TBD
We need 200 or more families and friends to demonstrate your support at this meeting.

We have no input on the dates, times, and locations of each meeting. We recognize that many activities are occuring in the next three weeks, including winter concerts and field work.  However, WE NEED YOU.  We need to mobilize the entire school community for these meetings to counter the perception that there is not a lot of support for the our new school building.  The BRA will likely not approve our request to build the new school if they don't SEE or HEAR us.

We will be handing out t-shirts and banners to wear at the meetings.  We will also provide transportation and childcare on meeting dates.

We are working towards a common goal-- creating a better school and a better educational experience for our children. We strive to create an atmosphere where teachers and children can do their best work. We strive to provide opportunities for residents of Roxbury through afterschool programs, concerts, and workshops. Roxbury residents, elected officials, and the members of the BRA need to hear from us. If we secure BRA Board approval, construction is a go!!

Please email or text me confirming which day(s) you are able to attend a meeting. I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you soon!!

  • Spring Fling planning meetings are coming up! On Saturday, December 5 at 2 pm the Spring Fling committee will meet to discuss the next steps in planning, and on Saturday, December 12 at 3 pm, there will be a special meeting for Spanish-speaking parents to discuss plans as well. Both meetings will be held at the Grove Hall branch of the Boston Public Library at 41 Geneva Ave, Dorchester, MA 02121.

  • Dear parents,

We are bringing Spirit Wednesdays to Conservatory Lab. It will be the first Wednesday of each month.
The kick-off event will be on Wednesday, December 2, 2015.  It will be Grade Level Color Day.

On that day  students and teachers can dress in their assigned color.
7th and 8th grade students will come around on Monday morning to tell the students about this event.

These are the colors for each grade:
    Grade 2-Orange
    Grade 3- Blue
    Grade 4- Purple
    Grade 5- Yellow
    Grade 6- White
    Grade 7-Black
    Grade 8-Red
Administrators and Other Staff - Pink

We will be looking for the most spirited grade!
    Looking forward to this day!
