Monday, the school had a very productive meeting with the Mayor and some of his key staff. The outcome of the meeting was that the formal Comment Period for our permit application to build a permanent home for the school at Bartlett Place in Dudley Square can begin! This period will commence November 4th and end just before Christmas.
We still have a long way to go, but this overcomes the hurdle we have been up against since last July.
There is absolutely no question that the emails and telephone calls to the Mayor, the BRA and Councilor Jackson made this progress possible. Led by parents, the emails and calls were a crucial link to the success of the campaign to gain momentum for the building project. Congratulations and a sincere thank you to all involved.
Now the real work begins. We should cease sending emails and making calls for now. There will be a series of public meetings over the next eight weeks. We must carefully plan a presentation for each. Parents, friends, staff and students will be asked to attend. This will take a lot of organization and planning...possibly including transportation, child care and musical performances. The basic goal is to demonstrate the strength of the school's program and the support for Conservatory Lab that already exists in the Roxbury community. Once we have the schedule in-hand and put together the strategy, you will hear more about what you can do to help.
Never before has it been as important for everyone in our community to work together as a team...with clear focus on the prize...a new building for our students, families and staff!
Thank you for all that you are doing to help make this dream a reality,
