Dear Families,
One of the most important events of the year for the school took place this week on Monday and Tuesday! It was the all-important DESE site visit. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education provides oversight for charter schools and ensures the school is fulfilling its mission During this two-day site visit, members of the inspection team from DESE reviewed instruction, mission, governance, financial viability and the school's accountability plan. They visited every classroom and a number of music rooms /ensembles. They observed music integration in our academic classrooms and they even reviewed the lesson plans of each class. Interviews were conducted with our entire Leadership Team as well as with members of our Board. They reviewed our data regarding student recruitment, retention and equal access.
It is a most intense review of everything that the school does and during the debrief DESE stated they observed our efforts in meeting the needs of our diverse learners. We will be receiving a written report in about three weeks and it will become part of Conservatory Lab's permanent record.
We are most appreciative of all the planning and hard work that went into the preparations for having this most critical visit go smoothly. We were happy with the student's concentration and performance and the way in which the entire school was working together in harmony. All the effort and care did not go unnoticed by the DESE team.

Book Fair Coming Up!
Dear Conservatory Lab Families,
The Scholastic Book Fair, one of the biggest fundraisers for the school community, is coming up soon, and we need your help! The book fair is a fun way to promote literacy and family involvement is the key!
The Brighton campus fair will run Monday, October 26, through Friday, October 30, at the 320 Washington Street building. The fair is open all day, and we need volunteers to staff the fair, helping students to choose books and ringing up sales. It's a fun way to volunteer at the school and get to know other members of the school community!
Join us for a shift at one of the following times each day the fair is open:
8:00 am - 11:00
11:00 a.m. - 2:00pm
2:00 pm - 4:30pm
If you can only volunteer for part of a shift, that's fine-any help is tremendously appreciated.
We also need assistance with:
1. On Saturday, October 24th at 9:00 a.m. book fair set-up assistance
2. On Friday October 30th at 5:00pm. breaking down the displays and packing everything up for return to Scholastic.
To volunteer to help with the book fair, please follow the 3 easy steps below to sign up using VolunteerSpot (the leading online signup and reminder tool).
2. Enter your email address: (You will NOT need to register an account on VolunteerSpot.)
3. Sign up! Choose your time slot(s) - VolunteerSpot will then send you an automated confirmation and reminders as the date of your time slot approaches. (Note: VolunteerSpot does not share your email address with anyone)
If you prefer not to use your email address, please contact me at feliceandspence@yahoo.com and I can sign you up for a shift at the book fair manually.
The Dorchester campus fair starts Monday November 2 through Friday November 6 . We will assistance all days including Sunday November 1st for set-up and closing the fair Friday November 6 at 5:00pm.
Many thanks in advance for any volunteer time you can offer for this very important PAC fundraiser! Your participation makes all the difference in the success of this event. We are lucky to have such a fantastic parent community!
I look forward to seeing you at the fair!
Best,
Felice Rutstein-Lee
