A Letter from Diana

|
Dear Families,
Although we began earlier than usual, the 2015-2016 school year is off to a strong start with all classes running smoothly and serenely. After two years wherein we had experienced major site moves and huge influx of new students, we are more stable both in physical site and in configuration of student body. In our new principal, Nicole Bradeen, we have an experienced curriculum developer and coach, well-versed in the special needs area and in classroom management. Her steady hand will guide us well.
Just before school began, we completed two intense weeks of comprehensive professional development sessions for the entire school faculty & staff, designed to fashion a more cohesive and well-integrated team. We are all keenly aware of and focused on our three goals for the year: to increase academic and music achievement, to focus on our students with disabilities and to establish, promote and maintain a positive school culture.
An essential part of that team is you, the parent group. We are enhancing our systems of communications for every sector that is part of our community. In fact, to work more seamlessly meeting the needs of parents and advocating for them in every sphere, Ms. Robyn Pretlow has been given a new role and title: Director for Civic, Community and Parental Engagement. She has been, and will continue, reaching out to every one of you. Among a number of other responsibilities, she is specifically the person who will have overall responsibility for all parental communication and parental involvement with the school and will serve as the School Administration's representative at all PAC and SPED PAC meetings and /or other parent-school meetings. She will play a key advocacy role on behalf of students and their rights.
The beginning of a new school year is always exciting for me. The thrill of seeing our students come back eager and full of anticipation, is the stuff of life for me. Have a delightful last week-end in August. Warmly, Diana Lam
