Parents Engage in Community Process

Monday night was the occasion of two powerful meetings with parents from zip codes in and around Roxbury, the designated site for Conservatory Lab's new home. Parents began to enthusiastically engage in the process with the Boston Redevelopment Authority and the Roxbury Community.

The next big action step is to attend the Community Meeting to take place at 6:00p.m.on Monday, July 6th
at the Dudley Branch of the BPL at 65 Warren Street in Roxbury.

Accomplishments at the meeting included:

  • Good sharing of information about the public process being followed to secure the BRA approval for our new school site
  • Learning about the BRA's project development site - coUrbanize.com and posting positive comments about our school.  All are encouraged to continue to post positive comments and ask other friends and relatives to do so.
  • Writing letters of support and sending them back to csoriano@conservatorylab.org to be copied and sent to the key individuals in the decision-making process.
  • Learning about attending VERY IMPORTANT Community Meeting cited above and understanding its importance in the BRA approval process. Child care will be provided.

Celebrations of Learning This Week

Grade 2 -The Truth About Snakes Ms. Teeven's and Ms. Glasberg's classes showcased their accomplished snake drawings and narrative nonfiction snake stories. The families and teachers who attended thought the quality of the drawings and stories was amazing!

Grade 3 - Rocks and Minerals Celebration
In Christina Tyndall's and Jac Bovery's classes, students welcomed 2nd and 4th graders to share their expert knowledge about rocks and minerals and play games with their mineral trading cards.

Grade 4 - What's Out There?

Why do we study space? How do we explore space? On Thursday,Grade four hosted a Space Expo for the Second and Third Grades. These experts on the solar system described the features of the various planets, and explained their reasoning behind their space craft models. Students became teachers, and we could not be happier for them!

First Grade Steps Up to Upper School

On Monday both 1st grade classes along with their teachers and Primary School Director, Mr. Kershner, made a visit to the Dorchester Campus.  They started their visit in Ms. Glasberg's 2nd grade classroom where they got to ask questions about what school will be like when they come to the Upper School.  What will be their Expeditions? What will they learn in math? Will there be just right books for them? Next they took a tour of the building led by Elementary School Director Ms. Livingston and got to see the offices as well as all the classrooms.  They ended the tour in the music room and then had a chance to ask El Sistema Director Mr. Gonzalez all sorts of questions about music for next year. They are looking forward to more challenging music and learning from upper grade peer mentors.  The morning visit ended with a trip to the park.  Now our 1st graders can picture a great next year of school!

A Letter from Coach Kay: Field Day!

This Wednesday, Grades 2-5 came together and showed off their awesome teamwork and cooperation skills they have learned throughout the year. There was high energy throughout the stations (kickball, sponge bucket relay, pizza box relay, river jump) with lots of cheering and high-5's. We ended the field day with a water balloon toss where each team competed against each other for the title of Water Balloon Toss champion!!!

K1 Portrait Gallery Opens at the Faneuil Branch of the Boston Public Library

On Tuesday evening all K1 families were invited to a special artist reception at the Faneuil Branch of the BPL. The students' self-portraits were all moved there and will be on display for the summer in the children's room. This is a wonderful way for the students to provide a service to the community and for the library to give our families a way to share their children's work with the community.

If you are in the neighborhood of Oak Square please drop in to check them out!  In the fall, the self-portraits will move to the Academy Hill Road Branch close to the Primary School and the main branch is planning a slide show display of the art at the end of the summer.  Stay tuned for more opportunities to connect with our youngest artists!
