Dear Families,

As we are preparing for several performances in the coming weeks, my thoughts are full of the value of performing onstage.

Performance is an important goal toward which all of our hard work in music and theater class is aimed. The anticipation of our next performance keeps us interested and focused, and inspires us to improve. It puts our long hours of practice into perspective and gives us the opportunity to share what we have learned with others. The performance provides an opportunity for our parents to see the student body in its entirety and to witness their child's progress within the larger context of other classes. It provides an outlet for the student to shine, and gives focus for the classwork. It is also a social occasion that brings parents and families together and encourages feelings of mutual support and pride.

Performing can be a wonderful experience, but at the same time, it can be

scary, especially for first timers. Our commitment at Conservatory Lab is to ensure that the experience is as good as possible for everyone concerned. Patience, encouragement, and support on all sides is important. Practice makes perfect, and performing isn't any different. The more one does it, the more relaxed one will become on stage or in front of other people.

Ultimately, the confidence you gain from performing will spill over into other areas of your life... sometimes in ways that you don't even realize!

Performing teaches confidence, the ability to work under pressure, think

quickly, and the importance of team work.

We are proud of all our "performers".

Have a wonderful weekend.

Warmly,

Ms. Lam

K2 Welcomes Baby Chicks

Ms. Randolph and Ms. Watts are pleased to announce the arrival of a dozen baby chicks in K2.  The students have been studying the life cycles of chicks.  Three weeks ago, the eggs and incubator were brought into the classroom and the students have been observing the eggs and preparing to be good caretakers of their chicks.  On Thursday, their patience and care were rewarded as the eggs began to hatch!  Twelve chicks were born this week and will live in the classroom for two weeks so the students can study them.  Then they will be returned to the farm in Rhode Island where they came from.  Welcome!

Fifth Grade Travels to Fort Ticonderoga

The 5th graders recently began an expedition on the American Revolution. The expedition began with an investigation on Henry Knox. Who was he? What did he do? Why was he important? The students learned that during the Revolutionary War Henry Knox traveled all the way from Boston to Fort Ticonderoga in NY and back in order to bring cannons to George Washington. The cannons allowed the Americans to win back control over Boston! Without these cannons, the British may not have left Boston on which is now Evacuation Day!

While at the fort, the students were able to experience life as 18th century military recruits. They practiced walking in formation, ate traditional food cooked outside on a manmade clay stove, and slept in rustic barracks. The experience was one that students will never forget!
