Dotzler and Apel Help Judge the
2016 Nebraska Scholastic Arts Competition
Jan Dotzler and Alissa Apel, both instructors at the Creative Center, had the exciting opportunity to act as judges for the Nebraska Scholastic Art Competition last week. They formed part of a panel of judges whose job was to critique, discuss, and judge high school artwork. Both instructors were honored to be a part of this panel, and were impressed with the artwork they viewed.

Graduate of the Month
Josh Doolittle
AOS '98
Art Director at FOX in Scotts Valley, CA
High School: Plattsmouth HS in Plattsmouth, NE
What does the company do?
For over four decades, FOX has been an industry leader in the design and development of high performance shock absorbers and racing suspension products for snowmobiles, mountain bikes, motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs, off-road cars, trucks, and SUVs.
What does the graduate do? As an in-house Art Director, I lead the design team and am responsible for all creative, art, and branding for FOX as a global company. This includes: product graphics, apparel, trade shows and events, website, posters and catalogues, advertising, and more. My focus is mainly on Bike product which is the largest FOX business unit, but I also help oversee all of Power Vehicles projects as well. I work directly with multiple departments - Engineering, Purchasing, Doc Control, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality (QC) - to make each project successful.
Comments: Art Direction goes beyond creating beautiful imagery. It's my job to make sure it's fun as well! When "it's right for the company" I sometimes get to sneak in my cheesy sense of humor into projects like promotional videos and announcing at major events and trade shows. I've accidentally become the "announcer guy" at shows now to draw in crowds and keep the party going, so no complaints there.
My favorite - and most challenging - project to date was creating the FOX museum a few years back. It's located here at our Scotts Valley, CA office (corporate headquarters). I worked directly with our founder, Box Fox, to help execute this project. It was really rewarding for him to have complete confidence in my vision for what it would become. The crazy part is that we finished it start-to-finish in four months!

From the Director
Whew! The holidays are over and we are already weeks into the new semester. Believe it or not, spring will be here soon, and then we'll be complaining of the heat instead of the cold. I can't wait!
If you are considering a career in graphic design and advertising, call us today to set up a time to interview. Fall classes for 2016 start on August 8.
Sincerely,
Kim Guyer
