Featured Project: Children's Book Illustrations
First-year students are provided with a children's poem and challenged with creating an illustrated spread using elements created both manually and on the computer. Students must be able to not only combine both techniques, but also design with the gutter and margins in mind.
Below are samples of children's book illustrations created by CC students (top to bottom):
Erin Hays - graduate of Farragut Senior HS, Farragut, IA
Rebecca Johnson - graduate of Grand Island Senior HS, Grand Island, NE
MacKenzie Jarvis - graduate of Roland-Story Comm. HS, Story City, IA
Elena Paz - graduate of Fremont Senior HS, Fremont, NE

Graduate of the Month
Kelly Murkins (Green)
AOS '03
Graphic Designer at The Burlington Capital Group in Omaha, NE
High School: Bellevue West HS in Bellevue, NE
What does the company do? Burlington Capital is a multi-faceted organization with subsidiary entities successful in identifying, developing, and operating businesses in the areas of real estate, property management, money management, and emerging markets. Founded in 1984 as an investment banking firm, the Company has evolved into an organization that searches out new, innovative ways to capitalize on unique growth opportunities.
What does the graduate do? I am in charge of developing and producing the majority of any design needs for each devision of our company, including printed and web graphics. We are an umbrella style company, so my job varies day by day depending on what devision I am working for. Our top division is real estate, in which I do a lot of rebranding for properties nationwide, as well as daily marketing such as newsletters, door hangers, or business cards for each property.
BCG also has an International division focused on agribusiness management and providing commercial services such as food aid monetization. In addition, we have a couple nonprofit organizations and businesses we are part of including an equine assisted therapy organization, a kids mentor program, an ozone technology company, the Omaha multi-sports complex, and the recent horse jumping event.
My wide range of projects can be anything from an entire rebranding of a new business or it could be something as small as an invite to an event.
Clients: Some local properties are: The 50/50 Student Living (Lincoln), Rising View Military Housing (Bellevue), Jones13 Apartments (Omaha), L14/L15 Apartments (Omaha), Ford Lofts (Omaha), Victory Apartments (Omaha), The Arboretum Senior Residences (Omaha).
Nonprofits / Organizations: Take Flight Farms (part of BCG), P4K Mentoring Program (part of BCG), Omaha Multisports Complex, vinNEBRASKA, Ronald McDonald House Charities Omaha, CleanCore Technologies, The International Horse Jumping Event, 2017 World Cup Horse Jumping Event.

From the Director
Whew! Classes here at the Creative Center start in 10 days - where the heck did summer go?! We look forward to welcoming our incoming and returning students for another fun-filled school year (OK - maybe some work will get done as well).
I might be looking forward to some cooler weather as well, but then I look back at the pictures of our building covered in snow, and I'm not so sure.
If you are considering a career in graphic design and advertising, call us today to set up a time to interview. Fall classes for 2015 start on August 10.
Sincerely, Kim Guyer Executive Director Creative Center 10850 Emmet Street Omaha, NE 68164 402-898-1000 x205 [email protected] www.creativecenter.edu |
