Computer Day is Finally Here!

Setting up a new computer, installing software, and assuring that everything is working great takes time, but it's definitely time well spent! Design students know that a computer is the tool that will take them the furthest in this career field.

Computers

Returning first-year students were excited to receive their
brand-new-out-of-the-box laptops on January 12.

Technology has evolved to the point where much of the industry could not exist without computers. (Cue the shaking heads of those of us who remember Rubylith and registering separations by hand.) And, while these laptops look great, they look even better in the dark!

Featured Project: Theatrical Posters

Third-year students concentrate on campaigns through much of the year, and this assignment is no different. Students are charged with choosing a theatrical event (play, festival, musical, or circus) and designing a complete identity as well as print advertising for the event. Hand techniques are required to be combined with digital skills to create distinctive projects.

Below are samples of theatrical posters created by CC students:

Breanna Marsh (Sweeney Todd) - graduate of Millard South HS in

    Omaha, NE

Cierra Calfee (Rumors) - graduate of Clarinda HS in Clarinda, IA

Kyle Theobald (Burningman) - graduate of Millard West HS in Omaha, NE

Adam Bialas (Warped Tour) - graduate of Fullerton HS in Fullerton, NE

Samantha Thomas (Bat Boy) - graduate of Bellevue East HS in

    Bellevue, NE

Jessica Smolinski (Bonnaroo) - graduate of Central HS in Omaha, NE

Graduate of the Month GOM_CShepherd

Cally Shepherd

BFA '03
Web Applications Developer at Gallup in Omaha, NE

High School:
Fremont-Mills HS in Tabor, IA

What does the company do? Gallup is best known for surveys and strengths management.

What does the graduate do?
I add and maintain CSS and HTML for Gallup websites. I also do email code for external marketing emails.

Comments: I have always wanted to work for Gallup. I spent 11 years polishing my skill set in order to be a valuable asset to The Gallup Corporation. I started small and worked my way up and all the hard work and all the dedication has finally paid off. If I could offer any advice to upcoming graduates, it would be to never give up and never settle for less. Set your goals and aim high. :-)

From the Director
Class is back in session, and the days are busy. And yet, is it just me or did January speed by rather quickly? Here's to a successful spring semester, and successful students to enhance it. (And here's to anticipating spring weather and playing outside!)

If you are considering a career in graphic design and advertising, call us today to set up a time to interview. Fall classes for 2015 start on August 10.
