A Designer's Work Never Ends
Even though classes end in May, the Creative Center's full-time faculty have their hands full with different projects during the summer months. These projects include learning new software, seminars, summer teaching, career development sessions, and prepping for the next school year. Also included is helping on various projects with Dotzler Creative Arts, one of which is developing new marketing materials - posters, videos, brochures, and handouts - for the college.
Since our faculty are also professional designers, it's a simple step to include them in the strategy and production of these pieces, and the Creative Center reaps the benefits by utilizing amazing designs that win design awards!
In fact, Dotzler Creative Arts won in another competition - American Graphic Design & Advertising - for it's marketing materials from last year. The
typographic hoodie won Best of Category in both Wearables and Typography; the flyer (left) was a finalist in Best of Category for Advertising Print; and the 20-year anniversary logo and 20-year anniversary pole banners (above) each won in Logos & Trademarks and Environmental Graphics & Signage, respectively.
Here's a sneak peak at this year's look. The fall mailing poster was photographed, illustrated, designed, and modeled by Creative Center employees and alumni. Keep an eye out for this and other related pieces this fall!

Featured Project: Famous Face Portraits
Portraiture has been a part of commissioned art since, well, since commissioned art! It's no surprise that the Creative Center includes portraits as one of our favorite illustration assignments in first year. Students are tasked with creating a color illustration of a famous person who is recognizable by a broad audience, young and old. No cartoon characters are allowed, and the person in question must be deceased. In addition, students are asked to create the illustration as for a magazine article, keeping in mind type and image placement. Below are samples of portraits created by CC students. Starting from the top, left:
Megan Christiansen (Amy Winehouse) -

Cole Collett (Steve Irwin) -
