Featured Project: Infographics
Studying cross-cultural communication in the workplace is an important component of the BFA Business Communication course. A hallmark of CC's BFA program is the integration of General Studies and creative graphic design. The Infographic Project involves using a foreign country of the student's choice and researching it for the following information: general facts, a brief history, geographic location, language, religion, and politics; next, a comparison of the cultural, social, and economic values of the country to the US; and finally, the business values of the country - how they differ from the US and how to be successful in a diverse work environment. The research is formally presented to the class as an info graphic. Below are samples of infographics created by CC students. Click on the image to see the design in its entirety. Top to bottom:
Ashton Rountree - graduate of David City HS in David City, NE
Adam Bialas - graduate of Fullerton HS in Fullerton, NE
Helen Watkins - graduate of Guthrie Center HS in Guthrie Center, IA
Cierra Calfee - graduate of Clarinda HS in Clarinda, IA Dionisio Curiel - graduate of Boyden-Hull HS in Hull, IA

Graduate of the Month
Henna P. Sexton
BFA '12
Creative Director at 3rd Story Communications in Kansas City, MO
High School: Smithville HS in Smithville, MO
What does the company do? We are a very unique marketing company that specializes in the real estate investing industry. We are really an "in-house" marketing company because all of our clients are owned by the same CEO, however, we operate like a regular agency because we bill by the hour, etc. My goal in the next year is to start bringing in new clients that are not part of the Affinity Enterprise Group family.
What does the graduate do? I started as a graphic designer and moved to a marketing coordinator and have recently been promoted to the Creative Director, all in less than two years. I assess each of our clients' needs and set up marketing strategies to help them achieve success with branding, marketing, and advertising. I design and maintain dozens of websites, create trade show booths, print collateral, email campaigns, online advertising and print advertising. I also create digital marketing campaigns for multiple businesses in the Kansas City area and nationally.
Clients: Some clients include: National Real Estate Insurance Group, Affinity Enterprise Group, American Association of Private Lenders, Wrenn Company, CoPRSecurity, The HomeMag, REI Expo, and Professional Real Estate Investors and Managers Alliance.
Comments: The training and schooling that I got from the Creative Center has been more than just instrumental in my career but completely vital for my growth in this business. I was not only taught all the technical skills, but also given the tools to be successful in the business world, which is not something everyone has the benefit of receiving from other educational programs.
Everything from the way the classes were set up to the content helped me to be successful in my career. I felt armed with everything I needed to not only get a job, but also secure my future in this industry. I can honestly say I know so many people who have graduated from other schools with the same degree who just could not get a job in this field because they were only given technical skills but not prepared for how to interview or how to put their resume together.
