It's Computer Time!
New Computers 2014

The first day of second semester is an inspiring time, given that first-year students receive their laptop computers. Smiles and laughter fill the classroom (seen above) as boxes are torn open, software is loaded, and new textbooks are perused. As one of the most exciting days of the school year for the students and administration alike, we look forward to the many creations these students will produce on their new design tool.

Congratulations!
Adam Bialas bus bench 1-2014

Congratulations to Adam Bialas, the Grand Prize winner of Best Buy Signs' January #designabench contest. Adam's bench has over 100,000 people driving by it everyday on 90th and Dodge, plus he received a cash prize. Way to go, Adam!

Featured Project: Morph Project

At the Creative Center, we challenge our students to think creatively, including finding ways to connect otherwise unconnected topics. One creative way to instigate this kind of creative thinking is the morph project in first year. The challenge is to morph one related subject into another in only five (5) steps. All the panels need to be the same size, and specific medias are required for this project. Students have fun deciding what to draw and some crazy connections are made. Below are samples of morph projects created by CC students. Left to right:

Maria Wolpert (Duck to Duck Dynasty) - graduate of Dakota Valley High School in N. Sioux City, SD
Madison Lauber (Miley to Giraffe) - graduate of Milford Jr Sr High School in Milford, NE

What does the company do?
Best Buy Signs was awarded the contract for the Omaha Bus Bench Program in 2009; we create and install the bus bench graphics for our clients. We also build all kinds of exterior and interior signs, channel letters, tradeshow displays, banners and more. We also sell flags and flagpoles.

What does the graduate do? I create the graphics for the bus bench ads when they are not supplied by the client. I also design for trade show displays, banners, and FatheadŽ wall graphics. I design sign mock-ups to show the client what the finished product will look like, and I manage all of our social media sites as well as Best Buy Signs' website and omahabusbench.com. I keep busy!

Clients: We have hundreds of bus bench clients on over 400 benches, and sign clients as large as LUND Co. to as small as Mom and Pop shops.

From the Director    Kim Guyer
Winter is certainly making sure that we know it is still around! Despite the frigid weather, we are looking forward to collecting accolades for our students at the ADDY Banquet in a couple weeks. I can't wait to share the award-winning work with you next month!

Until then, stay warm and make sure to mark your calendar for our spring Open House on March 22.

If you are a high school senior, and you are considering a career in graphic design and advertising, call us to set up a time to interview and visit our campus. Fall classes for 2014 start on August 11.

Sincerely,
