| "I have always felt a connection to Karen Wyckoff, whom I never met. My very first day of radiation Dr. Dusenbery came in and was very sad. She shared that a patient of hers had died and that she was so young. That was Karen."
During these last thirteen years, Jan fought many battles, but she and her husband Tim, continued to follow and support Rein in Sarcoma. Now they have responded with a significant new gift to support the RIS Sarcoma Scholars for the 2014-2015 academic year. This will allow RIS to fund three RIS Scholars for the next academic year and to increase the amount of their scholarships to $3,000.
Jan and Tim in speaking about their gift said, "We are grateful for the Rein in Sarcoma Foundation and its emphasis on educating people about sarcoma, including the next generation of physicians. We are enthused about the Foundation's work with the Sarcoma Scholars. We believe the Sarcoma Scholarship program increases the visibility and understanding about sarcoma in the medical community, a key to earlier detection." |

| "You don't want to be doctors 1 though 5 who misdiagnosed my brother's sarcoma" Jasmine Baultrippe poignantly stated to seventy 2nd year medical students at Rein in Sarcoma's annual "Sarcoma Day" at the University of Minnesota. Organized by RIS Sarcoma Scholars, the lunch lecture was highly informative with a presentation on Soft and Bone Tissue Sarcoma by Dr. Christian Ogilvie and personal presentations by Jasmine Baultrippe who lost her brother "Beanz" to osteosarcoma and Lisa Griebel who is a sarcoma survivor. Click here for full story including videos of their presentation. |

Volunteer Highlight: Nancy Hendrickson
|
Since 2003, Nancy Hendrickson has been coordinating the Rein in Sarcoma volunteers. After the loss of her son, Brent, to Sarcoma, Nancy vowed to do whatever she could to help find a cure and the cause of Osteosarcoma. According to Nancy, "It helps me to make sense of losing Brent and it keeps his memory close to my heart".
Nancy states the "Party in the Park" is her favorite Rein in Sarcoma event. Nancy exclaims, "It's a satisfying role because so many people are willing to step up and help!"
National Volunteer Week is April 6-12, 2014. We want to thank Nancy for her wonderful volunteer service to Rein in Sarcoma over the past 11 years. A shout out to you for all you do, Nancy.
