Our July 28th Party in the Park will come sooner than we think, and we need your support and skills to make it really extraordinary! 

 

Monday evening March 24, 2014 at 6:30pm, we will meet again at the University of Minnesota Orthopedic Clinic, in the 2nd floor conference room. Parking is free.

Jamie Modiano RIS Mini-Medical School Dean, Katheryn Dusenbery is pleased to announce that our fifth annual RIS Mini-Medical school that will highlight the very promising sarcoma research being conducted by the U of MN College of Veterinary Medicine under the leadership of Dr. Jamie Modiano.

 

2014 RIS Mini Medical School: "Going to the Dogs" - Finding Cures for Sarcomas through Canine Research will be held Saturday, April 12th 8:30 am to noon and presented in collaboration with University of MN School of Veterinary Medicine at the brand new U of MN Cancer & Cardiovascular Research Building.  The event is free to all RIS supporters. Join us for a evening, May 9, 2014 at 6:30pm, when Hippocrates Cafe productions use professional actors and musicians to explore complex healthcare topics. The Sarcoma Stories performance and exhibit will explore the human side of being a sarcoma patient, family member, friend or healthcare giver.

 

Creator and producer of Hippocrates Café, Dr. Hallberg is a Assistant professor in family medicine at the University of Minnesota, medical director at Mill City Clinic and a medical commentator for Minnesota Public Radio as well nationally on "All Things Considered".

Hippocrates Cafe Seeking additional stories

 

We invite you to tell your sarcoma story as a patient, a survivor, or one who has lost someone to sarcoma. Your "story" can be in written form using the form below and/or as video story, as music, art or craft. We encourage your creativity as you would like to best express your sarcoma "journey".

Maren Hilton
Maren has been giving her time and talents to the Karen Wyckoff Rein in Sarcoma Foundation for over 8 years. Karen was a close friend and after Karen's death, Maren was honored to be involved with RIS.
     
"I appreciate that people who are facing this disease have a resource to turn to, and it's an organization filled with wonderful people," states Maren.

Upcoming RIS Events
Family Practice Conference Spring Refresher
April 11 and 12
Dr. Christian Ogilvie will be speaking at the 2014 "Spring Refresher, Painting the Future of Family Practice". His presentation is entitled is "Sarcoma's: What Should I do about this bump" The conference is for Family Practice Doctors who are often the first to see sarcoma patients and Dr. Ogilvie will be making them aware of what to look for in a sarcoma diagnosis. The RIS Red Flags committee will be staffing a booth at the conference to pass out information developed by our Medical Advisory Board.

Help Raise Money for Sarcoma Education, Research, and Patient Support. All of the races are very friendly for new runners, especially the relay race where each participant runs approximately 5-8 miles. Please recruit friends and family to run for such a good cause! Sign up for marathon, half-marathon, or marathon relay (up to 4 participants) at Minneapolis Marathon. When signing yourself up, put Rein in Sarcoma in the Company Name line. Runners will pay registration fee and the pledges will go towards the Karen Wyckoff Rein in Sarcoma Foundation.
