"Party in the Park"- A Huge Success!
Our 13th annual "Party in the Park" was a magical evening of great music, entertainment and family fun. Rein in Sarcoma 2013 featured unlimited carousel rides, continuous entertainment, a large and unique Silent Auction and children's activities. "Party in the Park" not only raised over seventy thousand dollars in fulfilling our three-part mission, it provided hope and relief for patients and their families from the isolation of these rare and dangerous cancers. Over 1,000 people attended this year's "Party" under beautiful skies and perfect weather. We celebrated, connected, laughed and cried.
At our opening program Dr. Christian Ogilvie, chair of our Medical Advisory Team, and Michele Kolling of our Red Flags of Sarcoma Campaign, announced our expanded collaboration with the University of Minnesota, Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota and the Mayo Clinic to promote better and more timely sarcoma diagnoses. A Governor's Proclamation declaring July 21-July 27 as Sarcoma Awareness Week in Minnesota was read, and doctors and researchers from collaborating medical organizations were introduced.
Many thanks to all who attended. To learn more, click here. |

During the opening ceremony at this year's Party in the Park, the Third District Nurses Association presented a check of $31,0000 to establish the Therese Daniel Fund to be used towards educational efforts, as part of the RIS Transition Plan. In presenting the check, Jill Walker-Markie said that while serving as Executive Director, "Therese was a skillful, innovative, strong and loyal leader through a difficult time for the Association. She sustained this leadership even through a time when she was fighting her own personal battle with leiomiosarcoma. Nurses in this community love and appreciate her!" Sixteen year-old Ashley Rodriguez of the Washington DC Area sits in Dr. Jaime Modiano office at the University of Minnesota, surrounded by the hemangiosarcoma research team of Dr. Jong Hyuk Kim and lab tech Ashley Graef.
She carefully explains how she lost her beloved Golden Retriever, Daisey, to hemangiosarcoma (which causes the death of 20% of all Golden Retrievers) and mentions a research project for eleventh grade science and engineering. Read Ashley's story...

They ran, they kicked, they laughed and just plain had a lot of fun as they honored and remembered the life of Anna Rogotzke, who died of Rhabdomyosarcoma on her 4th birthday in 2010. Read more.... |
