Join us on Sunday afternoon, January 27th for our winter Gathering which has become a lovely tradition, filled with warmth and spring in the midst of winter.  This year we offer great humor and deep reflections, delivered with decadent treats and hope.

Please join us at Bachman's on Lyndale, where we will be entertained by colon cancer survivor and top-flight comedian Brenda Elsagher, then led by Becky Gorman to design our own plan for resilience and self-care.

Thank you to our hosts, Ruth and Dale Bachman.  The event is free, but registration is requested by January 22.  For more information and to register, please click here.

Gathering Featured Speakers:
Becky Gorman, a faculty member at the Center for Spirituality & Healing at the University of Minnesota, will speak on "Designing Your Own Resilience and Self-Care."  Her topic is appropriate for us all, no matter where we are in the sarcoma journey or whether we have lost someone to this disease.

Barbara Elsagher

Preceding Becky, we are pleased to have nationally known humorist Benda Elsagher  with us. Brenda has been voted the Funniest Person in the Twin Cities by Acme comedy club and "newsmaker of the year" by the Women's Press.  She also has received the Golden "Mic" (Mike) award from the American Cancer Society. Brenda will entertain us with a message of humor, healing and survivorship.  Or as she calls it, "Mope, Hope and Cope."  For more about Brenda,  click here.

Joel Mellenthin, Midwest Sports Publishing Network (MSPN) and friends will again support RIS with their annual ride to the Minnesota United Snowmobilers Association Winter Rendezvous  held February 7-10, 2013, at Cragun's Brainerd Resort. Through snow, rain, dirt or "mud" these intrepid riders will ride for a better tomorrow: a world without Sarcoma

This annual event attracts 300 to 400 snowmobilers from clubs around the State and features a VIP Ride with the Governor invited to participate. Many activities are scheduled throughout the weekend, which will showcase the Brainerd Lakes Area extensive trail system and show snowmobilers from around the State that the Brainerd Lakes Area is truly a "Winter Wonderland."

This year's ride will honor the life of  Eric Skogman. A snowmobiler and magazine editor in the snowmobile industry for more than a dozen years, Eric created the RIS Mud Dog Snowmobile Ride that raised over $20,000 for sarcoma in its first three years!  Eric died from Liposarcoma in April of 2011, and the 2013 ride is dedicated to the memory of his vision, passion, and humor.

$1,500 Challenge-Double your Gift

This year an anonymous donor has issued a $1,500 Mud Dog Challenge Grant! This donor has committed to match all new 2013 Mud Dog paid pledges up to $1,500.  Support the riders, remember Eric and get your payments in soon so that your gift will be doubled.

The 4th Annual Mini Medical School will feature a behind-the-scenes look at sarcoma research at the University of Minnesota. Come at 8:30 a.m. for a continental breakfast and be ready to begin your studies at 9:00 a.m.. You will graduate with a wealth of new knowledge at 12:00 noon.

This program is limited to 30 spaces so register early and don't miss out. The class is available to anyone who donated to RIS in 2012 or donates in any amount by Feb 25.
