MaGuire- 2012 Fall Gathering

A "real treat" for the sarcoma community happened at The Rein in Sarcoma Fall Gathering held at Arneson Acres the weekend before Halloween.  Forty attendees including new patients, long term survivors and families who had lost someone to sarcoma came together to listen to each other and to share their own stories.

This theme of storytelling was introduced by Ruth Bachman, who emphasized that in the telling of our stories we share ourselves in many ways, both giving and receiving. Charlie MaGuire, a true Minnesota storyteller in song, entertained us with stories of "unsung" heroes from Minnesota's past. All of that led up to the sharing of stories by sarcoma patients, survivors and those who have lost someone to sarcoma. The stories were profound, insightful and even humorous. In the last few weeks Rein in Sarcoma has cross the $1 million mark in raising funds for our three-part mission of sarcoma research, education and patient and family support. Through August RIS has raised $1,204,000, including $911,000 for research, since our inception in 2001.

  • New RIS Mission Statement
The RRIS Logo-1IS Board of Directors as a part of a multi-year transition plan adopted a revised mission statement at its last meeting:

"The Karen Wyckoff Rein in Sarcoma Foundation is dedicated to educating the public and medical community about sarcomas, supporting sarcoma patients and their loved ones, and funding research directed toward developing new treatments and finding a cure for sarcoma cancers."

The new mission statement is designed to emphasize the three major priorities of RIS: Sarcoma Education, Patient Support and Research.

Living with sarcoma, caring about others, living each day. Live each day with Gratitude.
