From Michael.. Special holiday thanks to all of our generous supporters. Diane, Sylvia, Bea and Linda have converted the gift shop/office into a horse racing version of Santa's Workshop. Everyone who ordered something should have it in time for Christmas. I have to say that the morning feedings get better and better, even with the falling temperatures. Star Plus, the stallion donated by Earl Macke, has become a great retiree. Each morning he demands extra carrots with polite authority. The Argentinian-bred has a majestic bearing and exudes confidence. Little Silver Charm's picture with Rosie Napravnik (taken by Sylvia) was in the Woodford Sun. The article, by Rick Capone, chronicles Rosie's phenomenal Saturday at the Fair Grounds aboard some great Thoroughbreds. But Little Silver Charm's photograph leads the way. The tours have quieted down and, after Christmas, we'll go to our one 11 a.m. tour a day until March. Thanks to everyone, once again.

photo Rick Capone Kano Doble 1999-2012 Kano Doble, who resided at Old Friends for seven years, was humanely euthanized last week at Hagyard's Equine Clinic due to complications resulting from a raging infection. "Mick," as he was known to many volunteers, wasn't a tourist attraction. He resided in the gelding herd at the furthest end of the farm and mostly kept to himself. But, sometimes, these great animals take the most unexpected times to show their inner strength. Just after he passed on, his Hagyard's veterinarian said he was remarkable kind especially in the face of his pain. Stoic until the end.
KANO DOBLE By Holy Bull out of Kanduit, Rugged Man Kano Doble was the 13-year-old son of Horse of the Year and 3-Year-Old champion Holy Bull, out of the Irish-bred Hard Ridden mare Kanduit. Kano Doble, aka Mick, had 33 starts, 1 win - at the age of 5 in a 1-1/6 maiden claiming race at River Downs- and earned $22,119 in his career. He retired in 2005.
