Portage Lakes Career Center Awarded $1.5M Straight-A Grant from State of Ohio
The Portage Lakes Career Center (PLCC), a career and technical school for both high school students and adult learners, has received a $1.5 million grant through Ohio's Straight A Fund.  This grant will allow PLCC to partner with eight other career centers to expand and continue the vision of RAMTEC (Robotics & Advanced Manufacturing Technology Education Collaborative) started at Tri-Rivers Career Center in Marion, by providing high school and adult students with advanced manufacturing and engineering training.

New Round of Workforce Training Money Available - Act Now!
The State of Ohio is making a third round of funding available through the Ohio Incumbent Workforce Training Voucher Program.  In fiscal year 2015, the State will make $29.4 million available to employers to enhance the skills of their employees. 

Companies are eligible for reimbursement of up to 50 percent of the training costs, up to $4,000 per employee and a  maximum of $250,000 per employer.  Companies must have been in operation for at least 12 months in Ohio to participate. 

Applications are accepted on a first come, first served basis by submitting the online application on September 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.  Historically, this has been a very popular program.  For more information and to access to the per-application, click here.

Charting the Course - September 30
 
Mayor Norton will host the next Charting the Course presentation to our business community on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. 

The Presentation will focus on workforce training and workforce assistance programs.  Ben Moore, superintendent of the Portage Lakes Career Center will give an update about PLCC's adult training programs, including their recent grant. Jason Haas, business services manager with Ohio Means Jobs - Summit County, will also discuss free programs available to business to help recruit top talent.

Port Green at CAK International Business Park - Phase III Now Open

The City of Green and its partners including the State of Ohio, Summit County, Aqua Ohio, Akron-Canton Airport, Development Finance Authority of Summit County and SB Equities recently celebrated the completion of Port Green at CAK International Business Park Phase III.  This third phase opens up more than 140 acres of buildable land in a more than 300 acre commercial/industrial park adjacent to CAK.
