Algonquin Art Contest
Catherine Luce- Unexpected Autumn Wind

We're excited to announce our first Algonquin Art Contest.  In the spirit of our past photo and video contests
,we now embrace another medium, art inspired by Algonquin Park.

In 1912 Tom Thomson stepped off the train and into Algonquin Park to start his iconic journey to capture the essence of Algonquin.  100 years later we're still inspired by the beauty of the landscape, wildlife and even textures and colours the park offers up.

Are you inspired by Algonquin Park to create art?

If you are, we encourage you to submit your art to our very first Algonquin Art Contest, inspired by great painters like Tom Thomson.  We're proud to be picked as one of Huntsville's official Tom Thomson 100th Anniversary Events.

Our art contest excludes Photos and Video since we already have contests for those, but includes any other medium; watercolours, oils, sketches, or even sculptures.  Any medium that you can photograph or scan to submit a digital copy of your artwork online will be accepted.

We have three categories to encourage everyone to enter, from amateur to professional, and even a kids category.

Our Judges:

Prizes:

There's also some great prizes. A Nikon D3100 SLR Camera kit from Cavalcade Color Lab & Wacom drawing tables from Staples in Huntsville.  See our Algonquin Art Contest online for full contest rules & complete prize details.

Enter on our website or Facebook page before Dec 31st when the art contest will close for judging.

Warren Miller Ski Movie - Algonquin Theatre
Huntsville, Ontario - Thursday November 16th at 7:30pm

Get into the Flow State with Algonquin Outfitters!

On Friday, November 16, AO will be presenting Flow State, the 63rd annual Warren Miller ski/snowboard film, at Huntsville's Algonquin Theatre. Show time is 7:30 pm.

Once again, Warren Miller raises the bar with Flow State, offering film goers a magnitude of ski and snowboard action that can't be matched anywhere else. When asked about the film, director Max Bervy said, "The Flow State is a place where the impossible becomes possible - where time slows down and a perfect moment becomes attainable. This film reveals what it is like to be completely immersed in the present completely immersed in the snow, in the mountains, and in the enjoyment of winter."

Warren Miller's Flow State guides viewers to the top of the world's most striking peaks, taking you on an exhilarating journey across the globe to Norway, Austria, California, Switzerland and beyond. The powder in Japan will send you scrambling to tune-up your gear, the gravity in Telluride will have you scheduling an avalanche refresher course, and the steeps in Alaska will drive you to push a little harder during your next preseason workout. Winter is right around the corner, and it is time to enter the Flow State where the mountain meets the mind.  Narrated by Jonny Moseley and showcasing celebrated athletes like Colby West, Chris Davenport, Jess McMillan and David Wise, Flow State throws down some of the most captivating footage ever shot by Warren Miller Entertainment. Olympic gold medalist Ted Ligety takes on Alaska's mighty Chugach, Julian Carr bombs down Utah's famed Wasatch, Jackie Paaso explores the Norwegian Arctic and Chris Anthony makes Warren Miller history on 70-year-old, 10th Mountain Division ski equipment.

Video Contest Finalists

Our Judges are still hard at work trying to pick our winners from this great summer contest.  Videos are particularly hard to pick winners from because they require time to view and also because there's such a variety of videos.  If you want to help our judges you can view the play list below and comment on the videos you love best or even just give them a thumbs up.

Marmot Gear Winner
Brandon Peek

Last month's winner in the Marmot Gear Contest was Branden Peek, from Toronto, Ontario.  As luck would have it Brandon was deep in Algonquin Park when we tried to contact him about his win.

Brandon dropped by our Huntsville store on Monday Oct 15th to claim his $500 Marmot shopping spree after spending a wet week in Algonquin Park.  He was quite happy to pick out the new Marmot Zion Jacket, the next generation of softshells. The almost magical qualities of Marmot's new Polartec NeoShell not only make this lightweight jacket waterproof, but also highly breathable, with stretch for days.

Brandon also picked up a matching Marmot Zeus 800 fill power goose down jacket.  Adding a super warm mid layer jacket to compliment the Zion or as a stand alone.  Brandon's favorite feature was the ability to pack the Zeus right down into it's own pocket allowing him to easily pack it for any adventure.  What a great combination Brandon.

Below is this month's great contest!

Welcome to Timeline for Facebook.

Our Facebook page has been all the buzz with Fall Colours.  Many of you have chose to share your autumn in Algonquin Park photos with us through Facebook and several of them have graced our timeline cover this month.  We were also very happy to find one submitted photo by Susan Oling that we liked so much it's now the background on our website.

We even had a great response a week ago when the Northern Lights were putting on their fall show in Algonquin Park.  We asked if anyone had pictures and got a great response.  This one was captured by Talesh Seeparsan, right from our Oxtongue Lake dock!

Yesterday the Daily Planet reminded us that they were in Algonquin Park to check out a giant telescope/radio observatory - the full feature aired last night on Discovery Channel CanadaI'll be looking for the show online later this week and posting it to our Facebook page.

Above is a photo that I captured of the Algonquin Radio Observatory in Algonquin Park near the Devil's Cellar Rapids on the Petawawa River.  Do you have a picture of the ARO?  If so, be sure to share it with us on our Facebook page.

Want to see where the ARO is located in Algonquin Park?  Check it out on the newly updated Algonquin Park map we have on our website (provided by Jeffrey McMurtrie)

DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME

Martyn Ashton takes the £10k carbon road bike used by Team Sky's Bradley Wiggins & Mark Cavendish for a ride with a difference. With a plan to push the limits of road biking as far as his lycra legs would dare, Martyn looked to get his ultimate ride out of the awesome Pinarello Dogma 2. This bike won the 2012 Tour de France - surely it deserves a Road Bike Party!

Shot in various locations around the UK and featuring music from 'Sound of Guns'. Road Bike Party captures some of the toughest stunts ever pulled on a carbon road bike.    THIS IS A MUST WATCH!
