Tips and Tricks to Make Life Easier

It's easier to be lazy when you're organized.

Here are 4 quick monthly tips from me, Molly Boren
of Simplicity Works Organizing Services. I hope they
make your life a little easier.

Remember: if it takes 2 minutes or less, do it now.
That is, read this now & then file or delete it.
How ironic if it were to become e-clutter!
DO

Cardboard box

Do Gather Elsewheres

"Elsewhere" is a noun when I'm organizing. As in (while sorting a closet), "Here's the 'to donate' bag, & this box is for elsewheres," -- the hat that belongs in the hall, the book for the den... Gather & then redistribute at the end of your session, avoiding distraction & the loss of time & focus. Great for emptying your bag at the end of the day, too!

DON'T

Don't Overschedule
It's a recipe for disappointment, if not disaster: packing your calendar with  one project or commitment after another with no breathing room -- or, as Dawn Mentzer of "The Insatiable Solopreneur" calls it in this powerful post, wiggle room. "Wiggle room involves setting aside time every day for the unexpected."
GET

Dresser
Get a Shoe Dresser
I'm loving a dresser by our back door devoted to, of all things, shoes. One drawer per person for as many (non-wet) pairs as fit comfortably; the rest go "home" to bedroom closets. It's much neater & easier to access than the old open rack, & a small box of outdoor supplies (gardening gloves, bubbles) fits too.

GIVE

Cell phone
Give Phones Easily
Paralyzed about how to properly & helpfully dispose of old cell- & smartphones? Check out these super-easy programs (you print a free shipping label & drop them in the mail) that wipe out your data, recycle safely when necessary, & support various causes, like global health, local groups, & women's shelters.
ORGANIZE

Red phone
Get Organized in June & July
I'm scheduling organizing sessions in the Detroit & Chicago areas for June & July. Call or email to find your best time. (For Chicago, you can also check this link for availability.) We'll identify your trouble spots, break them down into manageable steps, work through them, & keep in touch to make sure you can maintain the great progress you've made.

I'm proud to report that I'm the new Vice President of the Michigan chapter of NAPO, the National Association of Professional Organizers!
