Tips and Tricks to Make Life Easier

It's easier to celebrate when you're organized.

Here are 4 quick monthly tips from me, Molly Boren
of Simplicity Works Organizing Services. I hope they
make your life a little easier.

Remember: if it takes 2 minutes or less, do it now.
That is, read this now & then file or delete it.
How ironic if it were to become e-clutter!

Do Plan a Holiday Exit Strategy

Block off at least one free day to de-decorate your home. It only takes a few seconds, & with the time set aside on your calendar the task won't be as stressful. Another gift to your future self! Be sure to label your boxes (perhaps with the room or area of the yard that the decorations decorated).

Don't Resolve
Instead of New Year's resolutions (which rarely work), try tiny goals says Oliver Burkeman. They DO work. "Regular minor accomplishments - small wins - contribute much more to happiness than do occasional, bigger ones." Eg, put away or donate 3 pieces of clutter daily. Clearer, organized space...no guilt trip.

Get Clever with Books
A tiny step toward the goal of reading more could be this cheap storage/display idea for books or magazines: spice racks as forward-facing bookshelves. You only need a couple of feet of wall space. When you see them, you're more likely to read! Keep out only as many books or magazines as can fit, to reduce clutter.

Give a Greener 2013
Recycle or donate whatever holiday decorations you can't reuse. Many towns will recycle your Christmas tree, & there are lots of programs for broken string lights. Donate the holiday cards you received to St. Jude's Recycled Card Program. Try to make time for these errands on your de-decorating day (see above).
