Resources for Families in Need

More than 40 percent of 4J students qualify for free or reduced-price school meals. You qualify if your household income is at or below the federal guidelines, or if your family receives food stamps, TANF, or FDPIR-even if your situation is short-term, such as a temporary layoff. The program is confidential, easy, and good for both your budget and your child's school

Please Help Us!
We will be having an April/May direct drive to raise money for our school's academic and extracurricular programs. You will be able to direct your donation to where you believe it will be most helpful. Our goal is $10,000 this year - which we can achieve if every family can donate just $25.00. This will go a long way to keep supporting the programs that make Kelly great, so please give generously as you are able: $10, $20, $50, $100, $500 or even more. More information will be coming soon!

Second Trimester Honor Roll
a+ Congratulations!
Achieving high marks takes a great deal of hard work, dedication, and a commitment to learning. Parental support and encouragement are also key elements in student success. Congratulations to the students for earning a distinguished place on Kelly Middle School's Honor Roll. Click here to see who's made the grade this trimester.
Smarter Balance Testing

Smarter Balanced Testing is around the corner.  English Language Arts will begin April 20 and the Math will begin on May 11. As you know, this year's tests are quite different from years past. Students should do their best, but definitely not stress about these tests. The results will not affect their grades in anyways nor their future as students. As with any test, we remind you to help your student get enough sleep the night before and come to school with a full belly - for those of you who have kiddos who eat at school, we will make sure they are well fed!  Please avoid any appointments that will take your student out of the building during these days as we will need to find time for make-ups which could prolong the testing time period.

In addition, there are a few audio components in these assessments, so please remind your student to bring a set of headphones if they have some. Kelly will also have headphones for all students who need one, and it would help the logistics if some students brought their own.

Food Drive Tremendous Success!

Our annual Food Drive for Food for Lane County finished right before spring break and was a tremendous success! The food drive was organized and facilitated by our 8th grade WEB leaders, who collected the food from each first period classroom every day, and then sorted and counted the food in preparation for pick up by Food for Lane County.

In an effort to encourage students and families to contribute, the Kelly students participated in friendly class competitions. Each day, the classes that brought in donated food received points for the types of food collected. The three first period classrooms who accumulated the most points will receive one of the following prizes in the weeks ahead: a pizza party, Voodoo Donuts, or ice cream. The winning first period classes were Ms. Lum with 2010 points, Mr. Malcolm with 5075 points, and Ms. Young with 5955 points. Congratulations!

Thank you so very much to all the students and families who generously donated food to serve our local community, and also to WEB Leader Martha Brasted-Maki and WEB teacher Mr. Miller for taking the time with the school custodians during spring break to help get all the food delivered to Food for Lane County.

AVID at North Eugene High School

Student Need to Apply

AVID is a research based college readiness system designed to support students and educators as we put kids on the path to college preparedness. Students considered for AVID are bright or hardworking students who would benefit from the class that provides high quality support, academic monitoring, and tutoring. Some may also be first generation college students. The writing process, inquiry, mentoring, collaborative learning, critical reading, and organizational skills are the core strategies of the program. Some students have been involved with their middle school AVID programs and can continue into their high school career where they will be supported in completing college applications. There are limited spaces for the AVID elective class, so students who want to participate in this opportunity will need to apply. Teachers and staff have identified some of our current 8th grade students as potential AVID candidates for the class next year at North Eugene High School. We will be talking with these students the week of April 13 and there will applications/parent letter sent home with students after the presentation.

If you have questions please contact Tracy Ross, AVID Site Coordinator/Assistant Principal at North Eugene High School.
