Winter EasyCBM Testing is Here!
Three times a year in Kindergarten thru 8th grade schools across the district test our students on math and reading abilities in order to see learning growth over the year and identify students who could use a little more support in those areas. Our winter assessment is in full swing! Test taking can be stressful for students or may just be something a student doesn't take seriously. Click on this link for a list of things parents can do to prepare their child(ren) for successful and less stressful test taking experience.
 Volunteer/Vistor
Sign in System
The HelpCounter program is a very simple, user friendly program designed for the volunteer/visitor to sign in and out themselves. The program is housed on a computer in the front office. Background checks will now be required every two years and that process can now be done online. Just click here to complete that process if you don't have a current background check on file.
ParentVue
a plus
ParentVue to view your students grades is now available. You can stop by the front office and pick up your activation code or email  Terri Hunt  and she will email you your activation code.  Please remember that teachers are still learning the system and how to attach grades and assignments. Different teachers are in different places with implementation of this system, and we ask for your patience during this process.

Family Engineering Night
Back by Popular Demand
Kelly will host a Family Engineering Night this year on Thursday, February 19 from 5:30-7:30 in the KMS cafeteria. The event is FREE and participants will enjoy a variety of fantastic hands-on activities and a baked potato bar dinner. It's fun for the whole family and all ages are welcome! Spanish language materials will be available. Please RSVP by January 30 by returning the bottom portion of the flyer to the office so we can plan for the right amount of food and materials. Copies of the flyers will also be coming home with students and are available in the office too. Hope to see you there!
School Calendar Changes
The 2014-15 academic calendar has been adjusted to include unpaid furlough days - one school day and one staff work day when students would not have been in school. The furlough days were agreed on in contract negotiations this fall, and the schedule for the days has now been set.

If schools do not close for any snow days this year:

* Wednesday, June 10, will be the last day of school for students. The last day will be a full day for middle and high school students and an early release day for elementary students.

* Thursday, June 11, will be a grading day and the last workday for teachers.

* Friday, June 12, will be a budget reduction/furlough day.

Please be aware that the final school day may change. If there are any snow days (school days missed due to hazardous weather) they will be substituted for a scheduled furlough day or made up on days added at the end of the school year.
Exclusion Day is Coming!

Wednesday, February 18, 2015 is immunization exclusion day shot for this school year. This means that your student's school immunization record must be up to date with all required immunizations in order to stay in school. You will receive a letter if your student is missing immunizations. Please return this letter with the dates of shots that were given. If you have questions about the immunization your student needs, please leave a message for the School Nurse or Health Assistant at school. A TDAP booster after age 10 is now required for 7th-12th graders. 2 Hepatitis A shots are needed for K-5th grade students.

Free or Low Cost Medical Clinics

Do you lack health insurance or financial resources to pay for needed shots? Please contact a high school clinic as they are available for immunizations, illness, and well care for all 4J students and their siblings. Always take your child's immunization records to medical appointments. Another option is the immunization clinic at the Lane County Health Department 541-682-4041 or the Lane County Health Clinics

Churchill Clinic 541-790-5227

North Eugene Clinic 541-790-4445

As of March 1, 2014, if a parent seeks a non-medical exemption from immunizations, a Vaccine Education Certificate from a health care practitioner or a Certificate from the online vaccine education module at http://www.healthoregon.org/vaccineexemption must be completed and turned in to the school together with the Certificate of Immunization.

Vaccinate - It's Not too Late

Yearly influenza vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 mos age and older by the CDC. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for your body to develop an immune response and the flu season has just begun in Oregon. The nasal spray is indicated for healthy, non-pregnant persons aged 2-49 years.

In addition to getting immunized, it's also important to ward off the flu and other viruses and bacteria by these methods:

 *   Protect yourself and others by washing your hands often.

 *   Cover your mouth and nose with something other than your hand when you cough or sneeze.
