Pizza Feed

We  welcome you to our 5th Annual Pizza Social. Come share pizza and a drink, meet new friends, connect with old friends, and kick off the school year in style! The Scholastic book fair will be open during the evening events. Proceeds from the book fair will be used to purchase new books in the library.
Pizza will be a $1 per slice and tickets will be available at the door. Drinks will be provided by the school. Thanks to Papa's Pizza for supporting Kelly Middle School.
An Open House will follow our pizza feed. Parents will follow a mini-schedule, similar to the one their student follows every day. It's a great opportunity to meet your child's teachers, ask questions, learn about classroom expectations and curriculum, and explore the school.
Because time is limited, this is not a time for discussing individual student issues. Should there be a need to meet with teachers, you are invited to contact the teacher (via e-mail or by calling the school office) and schedule an appointment.

BEST+ Starting Soon
BEST
BEST+ is gearing back up at Kelly! BEST+ is our after school program, offering homework help, a meal, and enrichment classes for any Kelly student who would like to be involved. Program starts Monday, October 13 and is held Monday through Thursday, 3:30-5:30. Registration forms are available at the school, from your student, or in your e-mail (if you gave the school an e-mail address). Registration is a bit different this year- you will only need to fill our the registration packet one time during the school year, and your student will choose their classes while at school. If you have any questions, contact BEST+ Coordinator Christina Jamerson at jamerson_c@4j.lane.edu or (541) 790-4748.
Synergy

ParentVue to view your students grades is now available. You can stop by the front office and pick up your activation code or email  Terri Hunt and she will email you your activation code.

We are into our second full week of school... students are settling into classroom routines and teachers are engaging them in inspiring curriculum. We're in the middle of completing our Easy CBM benchmark testing and Reading Fluency, which establishes a baseline in math and reading. After so much work it is good to have students back in the building - their curiosity, excitement and energy fills the school with positive energy; it is clear they are ready to learn!

Volunteering at Kelly

Volunteers make the impossible possible.

In today's schools, there are simply far more jobs and responsibilities than there are people to do them. By helping with special events and routine tasks, volunteers allow teachers and staff to focus more on helping children learn and grow. The school can accomplish more, and offer children and families more services, with the help of volunteers.

Kelly welcomes and appreciates volunteers. Many volunteers work 1-3 hours per week; others help intermittently. If you are new to Kelly or haven't filled on the volunteer background form in the past two years, click here to do your background check. All volunteers in the building must complete the background check and sign in/out on the computer in the front office.

Volunteers are needed for the Book Fair:

9/19 - 9:00-10:30 a.m. - Set up
9/22 - 9/25 - 8:30-9:00 a.m. - Sales  11:00-12:30 p.m. - Sales
9/26  8:30 a.m. - Clean up, should be done about 10:30 a.m.

Please email our Volunteer Coordinator,  Shelley Hoffman if you can help.
Kelly Garden Growing

We are excited to announce that the Kelly Middle School garden will begin to undergo a transformation this fall. On September 27, the US Green Building Council will bring out a group of volunteers to put together new raised beds, haul soil and compost, and do some planting in the garden! We want to invite you to join us from 9am-Noon on September 27 to get the garden growing at Kelly! Together we can make a beautiful learning landscape to be enjoyed by students, families and community members alike. For more information on how to get involved please email Elizabeth Goward at Elizabeth@schoolgardenproject.org

River Walk Fund-Raiser
River Walk We have been doing the River Walk annually for 19 years to support various groups around the school. Currently the PE Department, WEB, Track and Grade Level Teams benefit from the River Walk. Much needed equipment and supplies are purchased through the generous donations we receive. You will be hearing more about this over the next week or two. Please ask your student about it; our school goal is to raise more than $15,000.
Site Council
Site Council

Next month we will have our first Site Council meeting. This committee is made up of parents, teachers, and administrators and is responsible for creating and monitoring our School Improvement Plan as well as monitoring any grants we have received. If you are interested in participating in this important council, we have applications in the front office and we welcome you to apply.

Student Drop Off and Pick Up

If you are dropping off or picking your student up, pleremindersase
use the drive through area in our parking lot off
North Park to the west of the school or the parking lot between Howard and Kelly to the east of the school. During pick up and drop off time, the parking lot directly in front of the school needs to be reserved for school buses only. Thanks for your help.
