I used to be able to quickly give an answer when asked about my vocation. Serving as an overseas missionary, it was easy for me to define my role in terms of location and activities. But many things are different now and I feel like I am being redefined.

So what is a missionary? So often this word conjures up visions of natives in loin cloths, holding spears as some white man attempts to convert him to a new religion. There is definitely some truth to this mental image, but I don't want to be a part of "converting" anyone. But I definitely want to share my experience with others so that they can have hope. Hope is what Jesus is all about!

Every one of us has a different story. My story has brough me to the place I am today and I am very thankful for that. Only through surviving my struggles and pain...my life exeriences...can I know that there is hope! I am a walking, living, breathing testament that things can change and life can be different.

So now, when people ask me what I do, I say "I'm a missionary". No, I don't live overseas. But my life's purpose is to share hope globally...Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the world. What I do looks different than a few years ago, but I am different than a few years ago.

I love my job and I know that I am called to encourage those on the front lines of ministry. So whether that encouragement is for an indigenous pastor in deep, dark Africa or a local woman that has committed to serve the needs of children abandoned in foster care, I want to encourage and support them in every way I can. God continues to open new doors and connect me with new friends in need of a fresh word from God. Please pray that I will always have something fresh to give to those who are weary. This is my mission!

Going for Him,

Stephanie
