The Shura Council applauds the Al-Nur Islamic Center for their perseverance in seeking their right to worship at their new Masjid in Ontario. After years of struggle against hate and bigotry, the al Nur-Islamic Center was finally awarded a conditional use permit by the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. Shura Council thanks all the partners from across the faith spectrum and in particular we recognize Br. Warren Inouye, an attorney from the Mormon community whose legal representation along with assistance from CAIR attorneys was crucial in this regard.

The Orange County Human Relations Commission (OCHRC) Hate Report released its 2012 hate crimes report. We thank OCHRC for its work and urge the community to learn more about fighting hate in OC and report hate crimes to Mr. James Armendaris at (714) 567-5117.
The Shura Council congratulates the Michigan Muslim Community Council for hiring its first Executive Director, Br. Dawud Zwink. He has a long history of community service such as, having worked with ISNA and was one of the founders of Muslim Youth of North America. More recently he worked with the Boy Scouts of Canada, Somali Relief Fund and the Muslim Observer.
Join Shura Council's social justice partner Fair Sentencing for Youth in calling on the California legislature to support SB 260 and treat children as children and give them a second chance to rehabilitate themselves rather than imprisoning them for life without the possibility of parole.
