Rev. Lawson

The Shura Council and Interfaith Witnesses held a workshop on Saturday, May 18th on non-violent direct action, presented by Rev. Jim Lawson to a packed audience at Masjid Omar Al-Farouk.

This workshop was held to educate the community with tools to redress injustice. Video from the event will be made available shortly at the Shura Council's YouTube channel. Stay tuned!

The Shura Council joined faith communities and social justice groups in sending a joint letter to Sen. Barbara Boxer urging her to drop her support for the United States-Israel Strategic Partnership Act of 2013, which grants Israel's entrance into the U.S. visa waver program and allows citizen of participating countries to travel to the U.S. without a visa, and vice-versa. Sen. Boxer proposed admitting Israel from engaging in equal treatment of American citizens--an exception that no other country in the program explicitly permitted.

Southern California will also commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Nakba, the catastrophe of the displacement and dispossession for Palestinians in 1948. Events will be held this Friday in Riverside, Saturday in Anaheim, Sunday in Escondido and next Friday, May 31st in Mission Viejo.

TELL US HOW TO SERVE YOU--Shura Council is here to serve you and we need your input to do so successfully.
