As we wrap up the year we wish that your December is filled with much happiness and good health. On My Mind...

Christmas TIME...

When I was young we lived in South Surrey. Our home had a brick fireplace and every year I would watch my dad make a "real" wood fire with firewood cut from the property. We would listen to my favourite Christmas holiday record, Nat King Cole and I would lay by the fire as long as possible, wishing my eyes to stay open, waiting for Old St. Nick to arrive. In the morning our stockings were stuffed to overflowing and our tree was deep with gifts! Looking back I so appreciate how lucky I was.

Then I had my own kids and we lived in Walnut Grove. We had a gas fireplace and every year we would read "Twas the Night Before Christmas" to our kids. We answered numerous questions on just how did Santa get into our house and would he be coming into their rooms? We would spend hours making live wreaths and garland, baking and wrapping. I even sewed my kids and husband matching stockings (the fact that I do not sew is a small detail!). We still use those stocking to this day. I would wrap in secret, we would leave cookies, and my husband and I would make reindeer prints in the snow, all to create a wonderful experience for our children. Seeing Christmas through a child's eye is magical.

Then my kids grew up and didn't believe in Santa anymore...WHAT?? We now believe in the "Magic of Christmas"! The magic that happens all around us during this time of year; the good deeds that people do, the good deeds that we can do for others. Things like taking a star off the tree at the mall to purchase a gift for a special child. Like giving up your "lucky" parking space to an elderly person, volunteering anywhere, or sharing your holiday baking with a neighbour, even if you don't speak to them often. It's the magic of giving with no strings attached.

TIME...I believe that time is one of the most valuable gifts there is and in order to experience the "Magic of Christmas" we have to spend some time with those we love. We are all so very busy but it is Christmas "Time" that I cherish. It is at this time that I slow down, focus on each member of my family and think about what I could do just for them. It is at this time that I reach out to my friends and really show appreciation for being a part of my life. It is at this time that I try to share in the magic of Christmas everywhere I go, whether it is hosting Chairs for Charity, singing carols at my Nana's care home, or sharing a smile with a stranger.

It is at this TIME that I want to thank you for being a part of The Passionate Home family. I feel very blessed that you take the time to support and encourage me along this journey.
