Welcome Melanie!

Melanie recently joined The Passionate Home team. Here's a little bit about her.

"I fell in love with The Passionate Home in the summer of 2013, when my girlfriend brought me into the store and told me about Chalk Paint™ by Annie Sloan. I began stopping in on a regular basis for paint - it really is an addiction! I have always loved being creative with home décor, but never knew how or where to start. Working at the shop literally fell in to my lap. I was in the store one day and jokingly said,"I should work here since I know the product so well," to which is when Elinor replied, "Well you know..."

Now I am working here and loving it. I love chatting with people and look forward to coming to work. I believe in the store, the products we sell, and shopping locally. Our team is a great group of ladies and I am happy that I found a place I enjoy."

Chalk Paint Colour of the Month...
CHATEAU GREY

An elegant greyed green, this is the colour found in French woodwork.

The photo to the right shows a piece we painted using Chateau Grey with a wash of Country Grey followed by clear and dark wax.

ADD OLD WHITE - to make 'Tamino'
Add 2 parts Old White to 1 part Chateau Grey to make a soft, pale mossy green.

For a little inspiration, check out this Pinterest search
.

Pick up a can of Chateau Grey in-store or order online.

 On My Mind...

An Experience That Changes Your World

This is my wonderful 16 year old daughter, Laurel. She just came back from spending spring break in Belize, a beautiful country in Central America, with a Caribbean coastline. She and her other team members went to Placencia, staying at a small rural school called St. John's Memorial Anglican School. Alongside other students, Laurel volunteered to improve the infrastructure of their school by constructing a playground from recycled materials and painting the interior and exterior of the school and classrooms. They assisted in education and awareness of Environmental Conservation as well as conducted workshops and seminars on personal health, among many other topics.  Laurel also had the experience of teaching a grade two class as the teacher was ill for a day.  All the kids worked long, hard hours in the hot sun, but also found time to tour amazing places like the famous Inland Blue Hole and St. Herman's Cave. They swam in the Caribbean Sea and showered under a waterfall!

Mike and I are so proud of Laurel.  She is proud of herself...it is a great feeling, an exciting feeling!  She is ready for more. This makes me think about how big the world really is and how full of experiences it is.  I don't think you need to travel far and wide to enhance your life. You could train for an activity like a marathon right here at home; I will never forget the feeling I felt crossing the finish line after my first half marathon. I think I will do it again.

You could learn something new by taking a workshop in something you have always wanted. I love seeing the excitement on someone's face after spending the day at our Chalk Paint™ Workshop, and then seeing them sign up for the upholstery workshop right afterwards!

You could help a neighbour or chat with the elderly. While visiting my nana I helped an elderly women get dressed and the look on her face, so full of gratitude, touched me greatly.

I think the point is that sometimes life is just so busy that we do not make time to experience new things; for the fun, the giving, the learning, and the sharing.  Even the power of your own smile can change a person's world and you both benefit from the experience.

What experience waits for you?  You should do it...
