Deadline for the state's Pre-K lottery is August 6
If you have a child who will turn 4 by Sept. 1, and you live in one of eight communities in Rhode Island, this is an opportunity you - or someone you know - won't want to miss. Children chosen by lottery receive a high-quality pre-kindergarten education at no cost to their parents.
Ready to Learn will continue to operate two of the 17 classrooms in the state-funded program -
the classroom at CCRI (Liston Campus/Providence) and a classroom that it operates with and at Heritage Park YMCA Early Learning Center in Pawtucket.
Other cities and towns with classrooms are Central Falls, Woonsocket, Warwick, West Warwick, Newport and Cranston. Children must live in the community in which the classroom is located.
The deadline for applications is August 6. The RI Department of Education, which administers the Pre-K Progam, will hold the lottery on August 7. This year parents can apply online in English or Spanish, or they can download and print an application in English or Spanish.
