The 2012/2013 AmeriCorps team settles in

LaurenCan you believe we are now in our second month of service? Time has flown since our August training, and while some of us are still getting adjusted to our new sites and placements, many have found new homes in the child-care centers, hospitals and libraries in which we are serving.

As part of the training requirement, new members have begun the course Mind in the Making at Ready to Learn with Samantha McCormack and Desiree Manley. Returning members have begun training in their specific areas of interest, including language classes (both Spanish and English) and courses in early childhood education.

We hope this newsletter will keep you up-to-date with the activities of your teammates. Please share information about events at your site, projects you have been working on, or personal news you think R2LP AmeriCorps members and staff would be interested in hearing. When possible, please submit a photo to go along with this information, taking care that any children in the picture have a signed photo release. You can submit the information to [email protected] along with your preferred method of contact in case we have questions about what you have submitted.

We want to hear from former AmeriCorps members as well. Staff and current members would love to know what you're up to.

Please feel free to share your successes and stories often! Thank you, and keep up the amazing work!

Andrea and Antonia to represent us on InterCorps Council

Andrea Cabrera (left) and Antonia Vargas
Antonia Vargas and Andrea Cabrera have been selected to represent our Ready to Learn AmeriCorps Team at the monthly InterCorps Council (ICC) meetings.

ICC meetings bring together one member from each AmeriCorps program in Rhode Island. These representatives collaborate to build leadership skills and to promote communication between programs, as well as with the state and national programs.

As ICC members, Andrea and Antonia will be responsible for sharing information about Ready to Learn at these meetings and also for bringing information back about events and other statewide programs. Antonia will be attending the monthly meetings as our primary representative and Andrea will serve as her alternate. (LL)

Grupo de Ready to Learn AmeriCorps 2012-2013
