Join us for the April End Mass Incarceration/Healing Communities meeting, Monday, April 27, 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 501 Mitchell Street, SW, Atlanta, GA 30314

What is the new Department of Community Supervision?

Guest Presenter:  Kathryn Hamoudah, Public Policy and Communications Manager, is the voice of the Southern Center for Human Rights at the State Capitol.  Kathryn will walk us through the new Department of Community Supervision which was created by the General Assembly during this most recent legislative session.

According to reports, "this new agency will need to deal with more than half a million people who are under state supervision.  The U.S. Department of Justice says about one in 12 Georgians is in prison, on probation or parole  ─ the highest per capita in the nation by far."  This department will have broad authority and oversight over probation and parole.  What does this mean for Georgians who are under supervision, their families and the community?

"Being an Advocate for an Incarcerated Family Member" Part II
Maya Chaudhuri, Southern Center for Human Rights Investigator, handles a full range of advocacy on behalf of SCHR's clients and will lead us through this topic  She'll cover such areas as who to call for non-medical questions or problems; who to call and what to do about an incarcerated family member with health care issues; and the transfer process - what happens and how.

One of the most important things faith communities can do for children is to pray for them.

Every child is a child of God.  All children deserve justice, compassion and our prayers.

ICM encourages every faith community to become a spiritual witness for children. Hold a worship service in your church, synagogue, masjid / mosque or temple and invite others to join in praying for the well-being of all children.
