Why?  According to the U.S. Fire Administration, in 2010, U.S. hospital emergency rooms treated an estimated 8,600 people for fireworks-related injuries. Of these:

-  2 out of 5 people injured by fireworks in 2010 were under 15 years of age.

-  An estimated 900 injuries were associated with firecrackers. Of these, an estimated 30 percent were associated with small firecrackers, 17 percent with illegal firecrackers, and 53 percent where the type of firecracker was not specified.

The U.S. Fire Administration's recommendation"The best way to protect your family is not to use any fireworks at home - period. Attend public fireworks displays and leave the lighting to the professionals."

The Message: "Please vote NO on SB 229. Two out of 5 people injured by fireworks in 2010 in the United States were under 15 years of age.  We do not need to increase the chance that children will suffer serious burns, lacerations or other injuries to their hands and fingers, legs, eyes, faces and ears."
Thank You!  HB 21 Passed the House 157 - 3
Thanks to you, HB 21 is on it's way to the Senate!
HB 21 - Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver

This bill provides for agreements for ongoing contact between birth relatives and adoptive families. The child would be a party to the agreement, and if 14 years of age or older, would have to consent.

For those children who want to keep or establish a relationship with their birth parents or relatives, let's not deny them this opportunity if it is in their best interest.

ACTION: Please contact your State Representative and thank him/her for passing this bill in House.

One of the most important things faith communities can do for children is to pray for them.

Every child is a child of God.  All children deserve justice, compassion and our prayers.

ICM encourages every faith community to become a spiritual witness for children. Hold a worship service in your church, synagogue, masjid / mosque or temple and invite others to join in praying for the well-being of all children.
