Honoring Outstanding Achievements

The annual M-A Senior Awards Night will be held on Tuesday, May 31, at 7 pm in the Performing Arts Center. During this inspirational evening, sponsored by M-A PTA, many hard-working and talented seniors (and a smaller number of juniors) are honored for outstanding academic and extracurricular performance as well as service to the school and community. Some of the awards will be a surprise, while many will be recognition for awards already received. Students will be recognized for a wide variety of scholarships, prizes, and commendations awarded by school and community groups. Last year, more than 200 individuals were recognized. Invitations will be mailed to families of students who will be receiving recognition. Awards to junior students will be presented early in the program (so juniors can go home to study for finals!), followed by senior awards. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.

Chris diSibio and Jonno Schaff each had three goals. Thomas Murff and Nikolai Ambwahi each had two goals. Devan Shankar had one goal. Zorro Narsinghia, Christian Anderson, Jack Noble and Dean Fratt each had three ground balls.

Sacred Heart and MA each won their home games and lost on the road to each other, which resulting in their respective only league losses and a tie at the top of the league. The MA lacrosse team went 16-3 overall including their JV Tournament with the only other two losses to Paly. The JV team awards were announced at the team BBQ on May 15. The most improved player goes to Junior Henry Morrissey. The ground ball award went to Freshman Jack Tully. The defensive player of the year went to Freshman goalie Baker. Boys Varsity Golf
Way to go Bears! The Varsity Golfers ended the PAL season 12-0, making them PAL Champions. Congratulations to the team and to freshman Jonathan Dicks, who made All League and tied for 2nd in the overall league rankings. Further congratulations are in order for junior Bryce Sevy, who led the pack after day one of the PAL league individual tournament. He ended with a great 2nd place overall after Round 2, posting a score of 155. Also of note, Dicks' 6th place with a combined score of 161, sophomore Bill Kirkpatrick's 7th place (164), junior Leo Tuchman's 8th place (170), and junior Maxwell Heller's 10th place finish (178). It was a great tournament for the Bears, with 5 M-A golfers finishing in the top 10. Finishing out the season, the Bears headed to Rancho Canada in Carmel last week for CCS. The M-A Team finished in 7th place. Individual scores were Dicks 76, Sevy 77, Heller, Kirkpatrick and Tuchman each with an 81 and Liston 94. It has been an amazing season and a big shout out goes to two remarkably dedicated and wonderful coaches: Head Coach, Jennifer Taylor-Smith and Coach, Dean Wilkins. The Bears couldn't have done it without you!

Girls Varsity Lacrosse
The Bears finished their regular season and had two playoff games the week of May 8. On Tuesday, the girls finished their WBAL regular season with a 17-6 victory over Castilleja. Before the game the Bears honored their Seniors and they responded with terrific Lacrosse for the large crowd. Sally Carlson scored three goals and gave three assists. Emma Roellig scored and played strong midfield, while Elena Fox played great defense. The Bears struck early and often with Grace Tully scoring 5 and Izzy Regonini and Emma Easton each scoring 3. The Bears defense held off the Gators for over 10 minutes in each half. M-A Goalie Samantha Gamez had 16 saves. Bea Geaghan-Breiner, Kelly Woods and Izzy Carhart dominated ground balls and transition. Also scoring for the Bears were Annie Payne and Katelyn Wiseman.

Friday night the Bears defeated Sequoia 20-2 in the opening round of the WBAL Playoffs. M-A was lead by Carlson, Easton and Tully with 3 goals each. Lindsey Martin got her first goal as a Bear. Also scoring for the Bears were Regonini 2, Payne 2, Roellig 2, Wiseman 2, and Madison Nelson.

With the win the Bears moved to the semi-finals where they faced Menlo School last Saturday morning. The Knights got the first goal, but the Bears controlled most of the first half and had a 4-1 lead with a minute remaining. Carlson assisted Regonini and scored from a free position. Payne drove and scored while Tully scored on a free position after long methodical M-A possessions. However, despite M-A Goalie Samantha Gamez's six saves, the Knights scored four goals in four minutes and it proved to be enough as they prevailed 5-4.

While the Bears missed the Championship game, they can take pride in one of the best seasons in M-A Lacrosse history. The team bids farewell to its seniors, Sally Carlson, Emma Roellig and Elena Fox who showed outstanding leadership and character. The Girls would like to thank their incredible coach Juliet Mittlemann as well as the support of the fans, the Boosters, and the M-A community. With one of the youngest rosters in league, the Bears look forward to next season.

Congrats to Izzy Carhardt, Emma Easton, Annie Payne, Izzy Regonini and Grace Tully, who will represent Northern California in this year's High School Girls National Tournament in Philadelphia over Memorial Day Weekend. And congrats to Coach Juliet Mittlemann who will coach one of the teams.

Track
Yesterday was a strong showing for M-A at the CCS Trials meet. We had many season and personal records set. Athletes qualified through to finals in many events. The girls will be represented in six events on Friday evening and the boys in two. Here's a quick recap:

1) The girls 4x100 relay team of Charlotte Schroeder, Kathryn Mohr, Tatum Maines, and Maggie Hall ran season best of 49.25 to qualify to finals. The team also moved up to 4th in M-A history!
2) Annalisa Crowe qualified in both the 1600 and 800. Her time in the 800 was the second fastest in the event.
3) In the 800, Madeleine Baier and Olivia Shane ran personal bests and narrowly missed qualifiying (they may get in as alternates). Baier's time was 2 seconds faster than her previous personal best and moved her up to 7th in school history. Shane's time was also a PR and moved her to 9th in school history.
4) Hall won her heat in the 200 and qualified through to finals with the 4th fastest time on the day.
5) Mohr qualified through to finals in both of her individual events; she won her heat in the 100 and vaulted well in the Pole Vault.
6) Jessica Eagle had a foot personal best in the Pole Vault. Her jump of 9'6 ties her for 2nd in school history!
7) The girls 4x400 team of Hall, Shane, Schroeder, and Crowe won their heat qualifying to finals and running the 2nd best time of the day.
8) Jack Gray had a huge PR in the long jump. His jump of 21'00.25" was a personal best by over half a foot and qualified him to finals.
9) Jordan Mims also qualified through to finals by running a PR in the 400.
10) Evan Reed had a nice end to his career with a PR in the 300 Hurdles. His time of 41.84 moved him to 11th in the records books.
