Swimming & Diving
PAL competition wrapped up with three M-A swim teams winning PAL titles: JV women, JV men, and the Varsity women. Those three teams were undefeated in the PAL regular season. Varsity men came in second to Carlmont High, the only team they had lost to in regular season competition. The competition was stiff with many swimmers making CCS times and improving their times for the season. A new PAL record and school record was posted by Izzi Henig in the 200 free. Henig also set a league and school record of 49.38 in the 100 Free when she led off the relay. CCS championships are this week, with several swimmers and divers competing in individual events and relays:
- Varsity women: Haley Arrington, Sofia Bergmann, Kate Denend, Nicole Dundas, Faith Dunn, Clare Haldeman, Izzi Henig, Mary Lane, Sophie Murff, and Maddie Worden.
- Varsity men: Vincent Busque, Nik Caryotakis, Max Ferenczy, Alex Hakanson, and Jak Tedesco.
- M-A Divers Mia Paulsen and Anna Leake will represent M-A in the diving component of the CCS Championships.
CCS Preliminaries are Friday, with the finals on Saturday. Go Bears! Thanks to everyone for an outstanding season so far!

Boys Varsity Lacrosse
Last week the Bears split their final regular season games. In the first matchup, M-A decimating Woodside (24-0 and goals are scored one point at time). What made the final score more remarkable is that seven JV players were called up to play in this Varsity game, and all played a meaningful amount of time. These players included Evan Siegel, Jack Tully, Zorro Narsinghia, Jonno Schaff, Chris DiSibio, Cam Baker and Thomas Murff. Goalies Cooper Waymire and Baker combined for the shutout with four total saves. The official scorer had a hard time tracking all the fast and furious scoring. Goal scorers were Tommy Bohac (1), Charlie Cummings (4), DiSibio (3), Devon Dundas (1), Jack Hansen (2), Robert Lane (1), Joey Lohmann (1), Murff (1), Cole Quinn (1), Schaff (1), Trystan Uphoff (2), Marcello Vial (2), Jack Wolf (3) and Nick Worden (1). Of these 24 goals, 20 were assisted, so the Bears showed great teamwork. Uphoff led M-A with six assists. Woodside only achieved four shots on goal as the defense was outstanding. John Mills and Tully were particularly noteworthy, each forcing four turnovers. Against Sacred Heart Prep, M-A fell behind early and could not muster a comeback, losing 2-16. M-A's goal scorers were Hansen and Wolf. This week the Bears start playoffs by hosting Carlmont at Coach Parks Field (Monday, 7pm). If M-A beats Carlmont, the next playoff game would likely be at Menlo on Wednesday. Come cheer on M-A during its post-season playoff run.

Girls Varsity Lacrosse
What a week! Over three days, the Bears had three league victories including one of the biggest wins in program history. On Monday the team defeated Burlingame High School, 16-5 at Burlingame. The Bears jumped out to a 10-0 advantage 19 minutes into the first half and never looked back. Grace Tully lead the Bears with four first half goals. Emma Easton added three. Hannah Shaw, Izzy Regonini and Annie Payne all scored twice. Sally Carlson pulled down five self draws and scored. Izzy Carhart and Bea Geaghan-Breiner dominated midfield ground balls. Goalie Samantha Gamez had five saves. Also scoring for the Bears were Emma Roellig and Katelyn Wiseman. The next day M-A put on another dominating performance with a 20-5 home victory over Sequoia High School. The Bears were lead again by Tully with 5 goals. Easton and Regonini each scored 4. Strong defense from Kelly Woods and Meghan Child. Also scoring for the Bears were Carlson (2), Payne (2), Roellig (2), and Wiseman.
On Wednesday, the Bears hosted Menlo School. In the first half Payne scored twice and Tully and Easton each scored once, but M-A was down 5-4 at the half. The Bears started fast in the second half. Payne got off a pass, just before being leveled, and Tully scored on a quick stick. Tully assisted Carlson who found the upper left of the net. Payne gave a perfect pass to Carlson who shocked the Knights with a right-handed goal. Tully scored 90 seconds later on a free position. After a 3 minute M-A defensive stand, the Bears Goalie, Gamez, got the fourth of her six saves. In transition, Carlson snagged a ground ball, went hard to net and scored. With the 5-0 run in the first 10 minutes, the Bears were up by 4 and starting to believe. Carhardt swooped out of nowhere to pluck the ball out of mid-air, transitioned to Payne who fed Tully and the Bears were back up by 3. Payne, who had two assists and four draw controls, crease rolled and scored her fourth goal to put the Bears up by two, sealing the 11-9 victory. With the win the Bears happily ended the 20+ game losing streak to the Knights. The Bears had strong defense and work in transition from Woods, Dorothy Aldridge and Geaghan-Breiner. This week the Bears host Castilleja at 4 pm on Tuesday where they will honor their seniors starting at 3:40 pm. On Friday, the team hosts a WBAL Playoff game at 5 pm.

On Wednesday, April 27 the team hosted Hillsdale, and came away with a 5-0 victory. Senior Nick Olson threw an absolute gem for the Bears going the distance for a complete game 2 hit shut out, and the win. On offense senior Matt Johnston led the way with two hits, and two runs scored. Nick Prainito, Miles Conrad, and James Sullivan all added doubles. Prainito also scored a run as did Bret Rodrigues and Kris Liang. On Thursday the Bears traveled to Hillsdale and got out to a 5-0 lead, but couldn't hold on, eventually taking an 8-5 loss. Klapper had a nice day at the plate as well with two hits.On Wednesday of this week the Bears were back home for Senior Day against Capuchino. Olson was back on the mound going a strong five innings. Friday had the team back on the road at Capuchino for the final league game of the year. Klapper took the mound and threw well. Freshman Daniel Burke came in and pitched a very nice sixth inning in relief. Johnston had two hits and scored a run, as did Prainito. Juniors Liang and Jimmy Wright also each added a hit. Wright flashed a web gem in the bottom of the sixth running down a long fly in left and making a great catch. It wasn't quite enough as M-A dropped the game 7-2. Boys Varsity Tennis
The MA Boys Varsity Tennis team won their first match of CCS by shutting out Westmont 7-0. Casey Morris pulled out a 11-9 in the third set tiebreak win at #1 singles against a tough opponent. The rest of the MA players won easily in straight sets, barely losing any games. Reed Fratt, Axel Brenner and Jeffrey Jorgensen won in singles, and Jack Jensen / Timmy Berthier, Noah Milman / Camillo Saueressig, and Nishant Relan / Eric Laderman won in doubles. Jake Andrew and Zach Ostrow also easily won an extra match. The next round against 6th seed Homestead was rained out so will be played this Monday at Homestead.
CCS for tennis is different from other sports in that there is only one open CCS for all teams, public and private, regardless of size. It makes the CCS team tennis tournament extra competitive and prestigious. Great work, team!

Girls Varsity Softball
On Tuesday, the Bears beat Latino College Preparatory Academy 16-1 in a 4-inning run-rule victory. Pitchers Taylor Conrad and Victoria Sanie combined for the win, holding the Golden Eagles to one unearned run and allowing no hits. Conrad started for the Bears and pitched 3 innings, striking out 7. Sanie finished the game and had a strikeout. After a scoreless first inning, the Bear offense came to life, capitalizing on defensive lapses by the Golden Eagles and getting key hits, scoring 11 runs. The Bears added 2 more in the 3rd inning and 3 more in the 4th to seal the victory. The offensive star for the Bears was Sarah Scandalios, who went 3 for 3 with a double and 2 singles, and drove in 4 runs. Ava Rose had 2 hits, and Jess Burgos, Delilah Kline, Sanie, Bella Anaya, Florence Filiai, and Conrad all hit safely for the Bears. On Wednesday, the Bears traveled to Pacifica to play Terra Nova, losing 10-0 in a 5-inning game. Conrad pitched well for the Bears, striking out 2 and walking only 3 batters, but Terra Nova jumped ahead in the first inning with 4 hits and took advantage of 2 costly Bear errors to take a 5-0 lead. After the first inning, the Bear defense settled down, allowing just 2 runs after the 2nd inning. The Bears were stymied on offense, putting the ball in play against the sharp Tiger defense, but managed only 2 hits in the game, both by Delilah Kline. On Thursday, the Bears played Burlingame Mercy High School, losing 12-1 in a 5-inning game. Filliai and Sanie pitched for the Bears, but had trouble finding the plate early and the Bears fell behind 10-0 in the first inning.
