May 4 is Bike, Walk, Take Public Transportation or Carpool to School Day!
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 4, Bike to School Day! While we highly encourage biking, rolling or walking as they are active, we also want to emphasize coming to school in any way other than one student per car trip so carpooling and taking public transportation are viable as well. Please plan ahead to choose an alternate option for May 4th! More to come on our transportation initiatives that will kick into gear for 2016-17.

Girls Varsity Lacrosse
On Tuesday at M-A, the Girls lost 15-9 to Sacred Heart Prep. The Bears had a three point lead early in the second half on four goals from Grace Tully and goals from Hannah Shaw, Emma Roellig, Annie Payne and Izzy Regonini. However, the Gators went on a 10-1 run to put the game away and stay undefeated in WBAL. This week the Bears have three consecutive league games. On Monday they visit Burlingame for a 5:30 pm game. On Tuesday they host Sequoia at 5:30 pm and on Wednesday they host Menlo at 4 pm.
Boys Varsity Tennis
All League selections were announced this week and the MA Boys varsity tennis players dominated the PAL All League Bay division team! MA has two first team selections and 12 second team. First Team All League: junior Casey Morris and senior Reed Fratt. Second Team All League: freshman Jake Andrew, freshman Timmy Berthier, senior Axel Brenner, sophomore Chris Iyer, senior Jack Jensen, sophomore Jeffrey Jorgenson, senior Eric Laderman, senior Noah Milman, sophomore Theo Novak, freshman Zach Ostrow, senior Nishant Relan, and junior Camillo Saueressig. Next week is the start of the CCS team tournament. Boys Varsity Lacrosse
Last week the Bears split its road games, dominating Burlingame (9-1) while Menlo (6-13) stopped M-A's four game winning streak. Against Burlingame, M-A was strong on both offense and defense. M-A's goal scorers were led by Robert Lane (3) and Jack Wolf (3), while Trevor Brinton, Jack Hansen and Andrew Ojeda each added a goal. Tommy Bohac (3) and Brinton (2) were the assist leaders. The defense was again led by M-A's outstanding goalie, Cooper Waymire, who saved 14 of 15 shots. The Bears' forced 8 turnovers: Lane and Wolf generated two each while Anders Chiang, Jack Maxwell, Max Miles and John Mills each added one. This week the Bears travel to Woodside (Tuesday 5 pm) before returning home to Coach Parks Field for seniors night against SHP (Thursday 7 pm). The games this week are the final regular season games. Boys JV Baseball
The JV Bears had a tough week with three loses. On Wednesday, the Bears traveled to Hillsdale High School to start a league series. M-A pitchers were Pete Discher, Jake Wang, Rio Zelaya and Blake Sanie. Julian Rico Santana had his first hit of the season and an RBI. Other hits: Johnny Eisenstat, Zelaya, Discher, Nik Robles, Blake Sanie (a double). Wang and Geo Deras each had 2 hits and Michael Pariseau had 3 hits. On Friday, the M-A Varsity baseball team did not have a game or practice, so four M-A varsity players joined the JV squad-- Daniel Burke, Miles Conrad, Daniel Heimuli and Anthony Waller-- to finish the series. Unfortunately, the Hillsdale Varsity team did not have a game or practice either and Hillsdale played down Varsity players as well. Waller pitched the first 6 innings for the Bears and Burke pitched the 7th inning. Burke had a single, Waller had a double and Zelaya and Heimuli each had 2 hits. On Saturday, the JV Bears traveled to Half Moon Bay High School for a non-league game in the most up-scale baseball facility of the season. Finn Bjerknes pitched the first 2 innings and Heimuli pitched the remainder of the game. Pariseau had one hit and Joey Olshausen and Heimuli each had 2 hits. In the top of the 5th inning, Ben Ferrick walked after a 12 pitch at bat and eventually came around to score. This coming week is the final week of the JV baseball season.

| | Girls Varsity Softball
The Bears had a tough week, losing all 3 games. On Monday, they were at Pinewood, losing 10-0 in a 5-inning game. Taylor Conrad started for the Bears and pitched well, allowing just 1 hit and 2 runs. On offense, Bear hitters were stymied by excellent Pinewood pitching, striking out 8 times and getting just 1 hit, a double by Sarah Scandalios. Victoria Sanie and Florence Filliai pitched the final 3 innings for the Bears. On Wednesday, the Bears traveled to Daly City to play Jefferson in terrible blustery conditions, losing 17-2 in a 4-inning game. Jess Burgos, Sai Sema and Filliai all had one hit and Delilah Kline had 2 hits and drove in the Bears only 2 runs. Conrad and Filliai pitched for the Bears, keeping them in the game until the 3rd inning, when Jefferson opened with 4 consecutive hits and 8 overall to put the game out of reach. On Friday, the Bears played South San Francisco, losing 19-2 in a 5-inning game. Conrad, Sanie and Filliai pitched for the Bears but got little support from the Bears defense, which committed 8 errors in the game. Scandalios had 2 hits and an RBI for the Bears, and Burgos, Kline, Ava Rose, and Laura Kirk had hits for the Bears. This week the Bears have a home game against Latino College Preparatory Academy on Tuesday, May 3, and travel to Terra Nova on Wednesday, May 4, and Mercy Burlingame on Thursday, May 5. Boys Varsity Volleyball
Congratulations to the boys varsity volleyball team, who have clinched the very first PAL league title in history for this sport! The Bears finish out their regular season this week, with their last home game - and SENIOR NIGHT - on Wednesday, May 4 at 6 pm. Come on out and make some noise for our beloved seniors! The Bears will then play one final league match at Capuchino on Friday, hoping to remain undefeated in the league and end with a league record of 12-0!
Swimming
M-A Bears Swimmers dropped only 6 events out of 46 events to Burlingame swimmers last week. All four swim squads won easily over Burlingame: Varsity Girls won 11.4.2 to 56, Varsity boys won 107.2 to 63, JV Girls won 135.2 to 51, and JV boys won 134.2 to 52. All the Bears are undefeated in PAL competition, except the Boys Varsity team which has lost once to Carlmont. Revenge is in their grasp this week, when all the PAL league teams face off again at the championships at Woodside High for prelims on Wednesday (girls events) and Thursday (boys events), and the championships on Saturday. Winners of JV Girls individual events were Ayla Huhn (200 Free and 100 Back), Molly Banks (100 IM), Maddie Sonderby (50 Free), Kyra Sheeper (50 Back), Allison Collins (100 Free), Brynn Williams (50 Breast and 100 Breast). JV Girls won both relays: 200 Free Relay (Collins, Claire Bozdog, Suzuka Kawaguchi, Sheeper) and the 400 Free Relay (Sonderby, Emily Baker, Banks, Huhn). Winners of JV Boys individual events were Hugo McMillan (200 Free), River Weston (100 IM), Adrien Carrou (50 Free), Cooper Gran (50 Back), Chris Lobdell (50 Fly and 100 Back), Alec Berquist (50 Breast), and Shon Alimukhamedov (100 Breast). JV Boys won both the 200 Free Relay (Lobdell, McMillan, Tyler Lewis, Carrou) and the 400 Free Relay (Weston, Lobdell, McMillan, Henry Marks). Varsity girls completely dominated with two wins from Izzy Henig with two CCS times (200 free and 100 Fly), Haley Arrington (100 free - a CCS time), and Nicole Dundas (100 Back and 50 Free). Varsity Girls won all three relays: Medley (Arrington, Faith Dunn, Maddie Worden, Henig), 200 Free (Sophie Murff, Kate Denend, Dundas, Worden - a CCS time), and the 400 Free Relay - a CCS time (Murff, Denend, Arrington, Henig). Varsity Boys individual events were won by Vincent Busque (200 Free and 100 Free -- (both CCS times), Jak Tedesco (200 IM and 100 Back), Nik Caryotakis (100 Breast), and Alex Hakanson (50 Free). The Varsity boys won two relays: 200 Medley Relay (Tedesco, Caryotakis, Hakanson, Busque) and the 200 Free Relay (Max Ferenczy, Caryotakis, Tedesco, Hakanson). As the season wraps up, the Bears are heading for PAL Championships looking strong! Come to Woodside High on Wednesday and Thursday after school for the PAL preliminary meet, or the Championship meet at Woodside on Saturday to cheer on the Aqua Bears! |
Boys JV Lacrosse
Last Tuesday the boys played Burlingame HS on their home turf. The smell of eucalyptus filled the air. The aroma therapy inspired the boys to defeat Burlingame 10-5. Chris diSibio had five goals (on eleven shots) and Thomas Murff had three (on six shots) to lead the offensive attack. Brendan McLaughlin had three assists and a valid goal missed by the closest referee as the net was pretty tight. Zorro Narsinghia went 14-17 on face off wins and gathered six loose balls! Jonno Schaff and Evan Siegal each had one goal. Cameron Baker and Jack Schoenthaler each had four saves while splitting the duties at the net. Next up was an away game on Thursday against Menlo School, which the Bears won 12-4. The sun angle rendered the score board useless. The natural grass field is the best around, truly spectacular. The Menlo boys had several injured players including their fastest middle fielder who was out with a cracked clavicle (his Mom was also out with a severed tendon and her foot in a boot). The Bears dominated again with a suffocating defense and steady offensive production from the usual players. Siegal, Schaff, diSibio, and Murff shared the ammo with three goals each. Schoenthaler had six goalie saves in the first half. Baker had saves too in the second half. Jack Tully scooped nine loose balls. Siegal had collected six loose balls and Narasinghia had four. Woodside scratched this Tuesday's game with too many injuries. The last game is on Thursday at 4:30 against Sacred Heart. This home game is a rubber match and likely will be a battle. The boys' season ends after this game.
