Guidance, College and Career Center Under Construction!
The Guidance Office and the College and Career Center will be renovated and under construction this spring and summer. While under construction, both locations will not be accessible for the remainder of the 2015-16 academic year. However, staff (Guidance Counselors, College Advisor and guidance support staff) will be temporarily relocated throughout the campus. Due to this situation, we strongly recommend scheduling an appointment if you need to meet with a Guidance Counselor. It's best to reach your student's Guidance Counselor via e-mail. Swimming & Diving
Last week's meet against Carlmont resulted in some fast swim times and many CCS qualifying times for relays and individuals. Three out of four squads soundly beat a strong Carlmont swimming team. Girls JV won 103-83, Boys JV won 120-62, and Girls varsity won 120-50. Those squads are undefeated in PAL competition, while Varsity Boys were edged out 98-72, resulting in their first loss in PAL. For Girls JV, individual events were won by Emily Baker (200 Free), Molly Banks (200 I M), Brynn Williams (50 Breast), Ayla Huhn (50 Free and 50 Fly), and Kyra Sheeper (100 Back). The 400 Free Relay team (Huhn, Maddie Sonderby, Banks, and Allison Collins) also beat Carlmont JV girls.
Boys JV squad posted three relay wins, and several individual wins from Andy Maxwell (200 Free and 100 Free), Henry Marks (50 back), Demetri Sweezy (50 Fly), Alec Berquist (50 breast), and Noah Smith (100 breast). JV Boys dominated the relays: 200 Medley Relay (Chris Lobdell, Smith, Finn DePuy, Maxwell), the 200 Free Relay (Smith, Hugo McMillan, Sweezy, Maxwell) and 400 Free Relay (Marks, Tyler Lewis, Cooper Gran, McMillan).
Girls Varsity swimmers posted some amazing times, earning many CCS cuts. Nicole Dundas won her two individual events and earned CCS times in the 200 and 500 Free events. Clare Haldeman came in second in the 200 Free and earned a CCS time. Faith Dunn earned a CCS time in her 200 IM event, and won her 100 Breast event. Kate Denend won her two individual events and earned CCS cuts in both the 100 Free and 50 Free. Maddie Worden won the 100 Fly, and Haley Arrington won the 100 Back event. The depth of the girls' team was obvious in winning all three relays with CCS times, and a second team also posting a CCS time. Congratulations to the Varsity Girls for posting CCS times in the 200 Medley Relay (Arrington, Dunn, Worden, Denend), 200 Free Relay (Mary Lane, Dundas, Nicole, Sophie Murff, and Worden), 400 Free A team (Murff, Dunn, Arrington, Denend) and 400 Free B team (Lane, Sophia Goland, Sofia Bergmann, and Haldeman).
Varsity boys faced strong competition from Carlmont, but won two of three relays and posted a few CCS times. Vincent Busque won two events and posted two CCS times in the 200 and 500 Free events. Jak Tedesco won the 100 Back event, earning a CCS time. Relay teams for the 200 medley (Jack Beasley, Nik Caryotakis, Tedesco, Busque) and 200 Free relay (Alex Hakanson, Tedesco, Max Ferenczy, and Busque) both earned qualifying times for CCS. Next up: Bears face Hillsdale on April 14 at M-A. |
Boys Varsity Volleyball
The Boys Varsity Volleyball team is on a roll with a current record of 14-2! Come cheer on the team this week with two home matches at 6 pm: Wednesday (4/13) vs. Capuchino, and Friday (4/15) vs. Hillsdale. And to celebrate the start of the second half of the season on Friday (4/15), we're hosting "Ace Night!" - where lucky fans will win BearWear for every M-A ace served, courtesy of the M-A Athletic Boosters! |
Girls Varsity Lacrosse
The girls stayed busy over spring break playing a pair of games in Southern California and visiting the Claremont Colleges. On Friday night at Oak Park High School (Ventura County) M-A faced one of the top teams in Southern California. The Bears several day lay off showed as the Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead on a drizzly night. The Bears went on a 4-0 run to close the gap to 7-4. However the Eagles All American player scored four more of her seven first half points to put Oak Park up 13-4 at the half. In the second half the Bears mounted a come back with Sally Carlson scoring three of her four points on the night and Grace Tully adding a pair, but the Eagles hung on for the win 11-19. Also scoring for the Bears were Annie Payne (2), Hannah Shaw, and Emma Easton. On Saturday the girls defeated Westlake High School (Los Angeles County) 19-6 on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The Bears were lead by Payne with five goals in a game that was never in doubt. Katelyn Wiseman scored four, including three in one minute. Sally Carlson and Tully each had three goals and two assists. Strong defense from Dorthy Aldridge and Grace Carlson. Izzy Regonini had four assists, totaling eight for the weekend. Also scoring for the Bears were Easton, Emma Roellig and Shaw. The Bears return to action on Tuesday April 12, when they host Burlingame for a 4 pm game. On Thursday they travel to Sequoia for a 5:30 pm game. On Saturday they visit Granite Bay High School for a 5:30 pm game.

Boys JV Lacrosse
Last week the 5-1 JV Lacrosse Team beat the Woodside HS JV team 18-1. Once again the Bears JV squad showed depth spreading the offensive barrage across eleven players: Thomas Murff (4), Brendan McLaughlin (3), Evan Siegel and Zorro Narsinghia each had two, and Robert Seiguer, Sal Ruiz, Lucas Olson, Chris diSibio, Caleb Hanson, "Jonno" Schaff, and Devan Shanker each had one goal. Cameron Baker had four saves protecting the goal. Christian Anderson recovered three loose balls, and Siegel got four. The back story on this blow out is that Woodside's team is now 0-3 and are in a building year. They started the year without a complete team. They recruited players with a little table in the school quad. The team only had only one substitute. Many of their players were new to wielding a lacrosse stick. Our boys finished the second half with a rolling clock and passed and shot left handed, except for McLaughlin who shot right handed. The defense handled their duties and only gave up the one goal in the last minute or so.
