WOODSIDE PARENT EDUCATION SERIES
Distracted Driving Workshop
Kelly Browning, PhD, Impact Teen Drivers (California Highway Patrol)
Thursday, January 14, 2016, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Woodside High School, Multi-Use Room (MUR)
Automobile collisions are the leading cause of death for our nation's teens. The overwhelming majority of these crashes are caused by inexperience or distractions, not "thrill-seeking" or deliberate risk-taking. Teen drivers are at the highest risk; the crash rate (per miles driven) for 16 years olds is four times that of adults.
In this workshop, you will learn about:
- Strategies to keep your teens safe on the road
- Graduated Drivers Licensing (GDL) laws
- The rules of the road for teen drivers
- How YOU can stop the #1 killer of teens in America--reckless and distracted driving
Since 2007, Impact Teen Drivers has emerged as a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to reversing the pervasive yet 100% preventable crisis of "distracted driving." Impact's mission is to change the culture of teen driving, thereby saving lives in this and future generations of drivers.
Parents, students, faculty/staff, and community members welcome! Free admission. Spanish interpretation available. Questions? Contact Charlene Margot, Director of the Parent Education Series, at cmargot@csmconsulting.net or (650) 868-0590. For Spanish, contact Maricela Lopez, Bilingual Parent Liaison, at (650) 367-7263, Ext. 45323.

Girls Varsity Soccer
The M-A Bears upset Sacred Heart Prep with a 4-1 win Friday evening, Dec. 11!! The Bears started off nicely when defender Ali Sivilotti dribbled all the way up the field and delivered an assist to midfielder Sarah McCloud, who shot her first goal of the game. Goalkeeper Breanna Sandoval showed quick decision making and confidence with the many shots on goal and continued to make great saves throughout the game. There was good coordination in passing in the midfield by Alissa McNerney and Talia Missan and the forwards before the next goal for the Bears, a left footed unassisted goal by McCloud. Katie Guenin then made the next unassisted goal by dribbling down the field and pounding it in. Kelsey Love continued to aggressively defend for the Bears and managed to save two goals at the last second. Margaret Child and Josephine Cotto showed good pressure against Sacred Heart. The Bears had some great saves and nice long passes before McCloud got the ball and hammered it in for her third goal of the game.

In the four games played so far this season, MA has allowed an overage of less than 4 points in the fourth quarter for the opposing teams. MA also shot 40% from the 3-point arc (4/10), demonstrating their versatility in offensive weapons. Hooper just missed his first double-double of the season with 9 points and 10 rebounds. Other top scorers included Heimuli with 7, Laeppaga with 6, and David Kelmar with 6 (making 2 of 3 3-pointers). Anthony Marini also contributed with 4 steals and 4 assists.

SERIES EDUCATIVAS PARA PADRES DE WOODSIDE
"Taller sobre la conducción distraída" presentado por Kelly Browning, PhD, Impact Teen Drivers (California Highway Patrol/Patrulla de Carreteras de California)
Jueves 14 de enero de 2016. 7:00 a 9:00 pm.
Woodside High School, Sala Multi-Usos (MUR)
