Congratulations Girls Volleyball Team!
Congratulations to the Menlo-Atherton Girls Varsity Volleyball team and Coach Fletcher Anderson and Assistant Coach Lauryn Anderson, who not only won the Central Coast Section Championship, but are also Nor Cal Tournament Champions. I had the pleasure of watching them play in the regional semi-finals at Pitman High School in Turlock. They played tough games and prevailed with their excellent offensive moves. In the finals, they beat Monte Vista High, the #1 seed, in three games. We sent them off with Bear cheers on Friday afternoon as they left for the state championship! By the time you read this on Sunday evening, we will know the outcome of the state finals to be played at Santiago Canyon College in Orange, CA on Saturday December 5th.
Please pass on your congratulations to the team members.

As we enter the holiday season, it's important to remember this time can be both joyous and stressful for many students and families. College application deadlines, family holiday expectations and semester finals can add additional layers of stress for students with an already challenging schedule. Fortunately, M-A has a variety of student support services that can help students navigate through these strenuous times. Through M-A's Partnership for Success, we are able to provide on-campus crisis counseling, intervention and prevention services to support students' social-emotional well-being, year round. Additionally, we provide clinical case management, brief intervention counseling, bilingual parent outreach, mentoring and referrals to off-site agencies.
Guidance Counselors are also a primary source of support and can assist students and families with referrals to these and other services. All of these services are available to M-A students on a daily basis, and parents are encouraged to contact us with any questions.Student Support StaffMiki Cristerna, LMFT, Student Support Director, mcristerna@seq.orgMatt Cusick, LPCCi, StarVista Counseling Coordinator, matt.cusick@star-vista.orgMariela Ramirez, StarVista Clinical Case Worker, mariela.ramirez@star-vista.orgLilly Quinonez, Bilingual Parent Coordinator, lquinonez@seq.orgGonzalo Alvarez Chavez, Bilingual Community Liaison, gchavez@seq.orgGuidance CounselorsSilvia Torres Garza, Department Chair, sgarza@seq.orgLara Sandora, lsandora@seq.orgKarina Escobar-Weaver, keweaver@seq.orgLaura Duran, lduran@seq.orgFrancine Andrade, fandrade@seq.orgJason Kubo, jkubo@seq.orgMegan Corazza, mcorazza@seq.orgNikki Dang, tdang@seq.orgDuring non-school hours, Starvista's Child and Adolescent Hotline & Prevention Program (CAHPP) is a great resource 1-650-567-5437.

Summer Activities Last week Friday, an email from the College/Career Center went to students via School Loop with some wonderful ideas and resources for Summer Activities (camps, programs, jobs, volunteering, internships, etc.). You may ask your student about it in order to start a conversation. While it may feel early to start thinking about the summer, some programs may have deadlines in January. Most deadlines occur February through May. Students can log into their School Loop account to read their Loop Mail.

M-A Foundation #GivingTuesday Results
Heartfelt thanks to our caring community for your unbelievably strong support of M-A students!
A generous friend of our Foundation offered a $10,000 grant if we received 100 donations on #GivingTuesday. An ambitious goal, but thanks to generous families and friends, we received 336 donations on #GivingTuesday, thereby earning the $10,000 grant! WOW!
For those of you who didn't make it under the wire, fear not-your donation can still count towards two other exciting challenges in progress until December 31:
- Increased Giving Challenge. Give more than last year and the increase will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $200,000! There is almost $100,000 available to match increased gifts.
- Freshman Family Challenge. If 150 freshman families donate by 12/31, we will receive a $30,000 grant! We need 66 more freshman families to donate.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Please donate online today - don't wait!
If you have already made your gift, thank you!

WOODSIDE PARENT EDUCATION SERIES
Distracted Driving Workshop
Kelly Browning, PhD, Impact Teen Drivers (California Highway Patrol)
Thursday, January 14, 2016, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Woodside High School, Multi-Use Room (MUR)
Automobile collisions are the leading cause of death for our nation's teens. The overwhelming majority of these crashes are caused by inexperience or distractions, not "thrill-seeking" or deliberate risk-taking. Teen drivers are at the highest risk: the crash rate (per miles driven) for 16 years olds is four times that of adults.
In this workshop, you will learn about:
- Strategies to keep your teens safe on the road
- Graduated Drivers Licensing (GDL) laws
- The Rules of the Road for teen drivers
- How YOU can stop the #1 killer of teens in America--reckless and distracted driving
Since 2007, Impact Teen Drivers has emerged as a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to reversing the pervasive yet 100% preventable crisis of "distracted driving." Impact's mission is to change the culture of teen driving, thereby saving lives in this and future generations of drivers.
Parents, students, faculty/staff, and community members welcome! Free admission. Spanish interpretation available. Questions? Contact Charlene Margot, Director of the Parent Education Series, at cmargot@csmconsulting.net or (650) 868-0590. For Spanish, contact Maricela Lopez, Bilingual Parent Liaison, at (650) 367-7263 Ext. 45323.

Girls Varsity Volleyball
NORCAL CHAMPIONS!!!!
Five words: UN. BUH. LEAVE. UH. BULL. This week the Girls Varsity Volleyball team made M-A history as the first girls' squad ever to win the NorCal Division 1 championship. CONGRATULATIONS!!! And they did it in true style, with a stunning three-set sweep of #1-ranked Monte Vista on their own home turf (25-23, 25-17, 25-18). The team's fluid choreography and scrappy determination were beautiful to behold. Alexa Roumeliotis dominated the back row, answering the towering Mustang hitters with 31 digs. Kirby Knapp commanded the offense with 46 assists, adding an ace and 5 digs. Jacqueline DiSanto was on fire, all over the court with 15 kills, 14 digs, and a block. Leanna Collins came in with 14 kills and 3 digs. Eliza Grover led on aces and blocks to go with her 5 kills and 3 digs. Courtney Foliaki had 6 kills, 2 digs and a block. Lauren Heller scored on 4 kills and dug 4. Kiana Sales, Shauna Sabet and Chloe Johnson each served an ace and helped to ratchet up the team's dig tally.
Over the weekend, the team made the long trek to Orange County to face Redondo Union (ranked #12 nationally) in the State Championships. Despite the immense odds stacked against them (and, it must be said, some unnecessarily obnoxious heckling from the SoCal crowd), the Bears held their own, battling every point. While Redondo Union prevailed 16-25, 18-25, 17-25, our Bears will forever hold their heads high, having earned their spot in the M-A hall of fame - and a well-deserved trip to Disneyland! As this thrilling season draws to a close, the team mourns the departure of the six beloved and highly-accomplished seniors: Leanna Collins, Rachel Gerber, Courtney Foliaki, Tatum Maines, Shauna Sabet, and Kelsey Tonsfeldt. We will miss you but your legacy will live on!

This partnership in the tournament composed the youngest players, Leung being a sophomore and Marks, a freshman. Great job, and this concludes the season.
