To Parents of Juniors From the College and Career Center
As announced in previous BearNotes, the new date for the Junior Parent College Night will be Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 7pm in the PAC Cafeteria, with simultaneous interpretation in Spanish (instead of November 17, 2015). The Sophomore Parent Night will be on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 6:30pm in the Library, also with simultaneous interpretation in Spanish.
Information for Juniors: In November, I will be making rounds to visit Juniors in their English classes to talk to them about preparing for the college application process. I will continue to communicate with Juniors throughout this year and next year via Naviance and School Loop, so please encourage them to check these and their " seq.org" account regularly. Much of the information I will share with Juniors will also be available on the CCC website and Naviance. For example, information about admissions testing is available on the CCC website, including a comparison of the New SAT vs. the ACT. You may also download a copy of the Junior Year Calendar at the CCC Website. In the second semester, there will be an optional weekly series of lunchtime presentations in the College/Career Center for Juniors. These lunchtime presentations will include topics like, "How Do I Start My College Search?", the UCs, CSU's, Private Colleges, Personal Statements and Supplemental Questions, and more. Juniors are encouraged to bring their lunch while attending these presentations. I also invite students and parents to attend Maria Furtado's talk on Thursday, November 19th at 7pm, which is part of the M-A Parent Education Series. Ms. Furtado is the Executive Director of Colleges that Change Lives, and she will be speaking on "Finding the Right Fit" for college. Simultaneous Spanish interpretation is available. Need help logging into "@seq.org" email account? This email account is similar to any other Gmail account, so students should go to www.gmail.com to sign in. If the student is having difficulty logging in, please see Ms. Nguyen, a counselor, or staff member. Need help logging into Naviance? For the email address, enter the student's ID# (don't include " @seq.org"). The password should be similar to their School Loop account. Though the Naviance account is linked to the student's email, it is meant to be shared as a family. Please talk to your student about logging in to Naviance. If the student is having difficulty logging into Naviance or their " @seq.org" email account, s/he should see a counselor or Ms. Nguyen in the CCC. ~ Mai Lien Nguyen, College Advisor

Congratulations to M-A's Scholars!
After every semester, the PTA publishes a list of all the students who achieved academic honors. In the Spring 2015 semester, 905 freshmen, sophomores and juniors (currently sophomores, juniors and seniors) made the M-A honor roll, and 388 of them earned Principal's Distinction, a GPA of 4.0 or higher. The members of the Spring 2015 honor roll are listed on the M-A PTA website by class and by categories of Principal's Distinction, Faculty Honors, and Honors. Correction: The honor roll listing for Spring 2015 published on the M-A PTA website last week mistakenly omitted the following students: Class of 2016 Principal's Distinction (4.0 up): Julian Zucker; Class of 2016 Faculty Honors (3.5-3.99): Carlos Acosta-Linares, Emily Addicott, Aubrey Anderson, Joseph Baran. The editors apologize for the errors. The website listing has been updated.
Congratulations to all the students who have earned academic honors!

Notable play included Sarah Lehman (4) and Fischer (3) with a string of aces and plenty of kills by Fischer (8), Tonsfeldt (5), Carlomagno (3), and Jones (3), thanks to great assists from Emily Young (11) and Hannah Roitman (10).

~ Grayson Lane, PTA Liaison
