New Bike Racks in Front of E-1
Recently, and thanks to parent support, we have installed a few bike racks in front of E-1, near the Oak Grove entrance. We will also be temporarily placing a couple of bike racks on the Northern edge of the parking lot, along Oak Grove. The bike racks along Oak Grove will only be there for a couple of weeks as we take a look at the flow of bike and pedestrian traffic on campus; our eventual goal is to place a large and permanent bike parking area at this location. In the meantime, consider having your son or daughter park their bike in front of E-1. Please make sure they wear a helmet, walk their bike on campus, and bring a bike lock. There will be no cage at this location and while we are working on having a camera placed there, we do not have one at this time, which means that students must use a sturdy bike lock.

New SAT Test and New SAT Classes
The content and format of the SAT test is changing in March 2016. As we prepare for our new review classes at M-A, we are making structural changes. Both the morning and afternoon classes will now be similar in structure and organized as one program. Each review class will be eight weeks long, four weeks of math and four weeks of verbal. There will be both a morning and afternoon class in preparation for the March 5 testing date and a morning class in preparation for the May 7 testing date. Variable credits will be available for interested students.
There will be more postings in future BearNotes emails about these SAT review classes. To help us in our planning and receive the SAT postings directly, please send the following information to gwhitnah@seq.org: student name, student email address and parent(s) email addresses. Along with that information, if you could tell me what class your son or daughter might be interested in it would be helpful in our planning.
As a final note, I would like to thank Jane King, who organized M-A's afternoon review classes for FIFTY years. Now retiring, her program was invaluable to thousands of M-A students throughout the years.

Re-Launch of M-A Chronicle
As the faculty adviser for the M-A Chronicle (formerly the M-A Bear News), I wanted to inform the parent community of all the hard work the journalism class has put into re-launching the online school newspaper. The students wanted to make some significant changes starting this year, and as part of that change we have re-branded the newspaper. Please check out our new website at www.machronicle.com.

Safety First: A Reality-Based Approach to Teens and Drugs
An Evening with Marsha Rosenbaum, PhD
Thursday, October 8, 2015, 7:00-8:30 pm
M-A Performing Arts Center, PAC Café
Just say no or say nothing at all? This is the question that many parents face with regard to drug use in their teens-whether alcohol, marijuana, or other drugs. Most drug education programs are aimed solely at preventing drug use. After instructions to abstain, the lesson ends. No information is provided about how to avoid problems or prevent abuse for those teens who do experiment. How can you help your kids stay safe? M-A Parent Education Series events are free, sponsored by the M-A PTA, the Sequoia Healthcare District, and the Sequoia Union High School District. This event is open to parents, students, faculty/staff, and community members. Simultaneous Spanish translation will be available. |

The Freshman team had a bye this week but will be back in action against the Woodside Wildcats this
Saturday, October 3 at 10 am at Coach Parks Field.
The JV Football team welcomed perennial MBL powerhouse Monterey to Coach Parks field on Friday in an action packed game that again showcased the Bears efforts as a complete team. With a "running back by committee" approach, the Bears scored touchdowns by utilizing the attack of Daniel Heimuli who also had a strip, caused a fumble and had a fumble recovery, Feleti Malupo, who contributed steadily, Jhavante Hill, who ran for consecutive 20+yard plays, bruiser Sione Fehoko, Ahoeitu Nglau, who as usual preferred to run over, drag, and challenge would be tacklers, and nifty footwork by the elusive Gary Carter. On special teams, the unit of Buck, Anthony Siri, and Spencer Corona recorded 4 PATs, now 10 in a row, one successful onside kick, and two touchbacks on kickoffs. On defense, Dimitri Sakalia, Tiuke Mahoni, and Ryan Buck led the way, with the Bears causing and recovering several fumbles, an interception for a TD, and a safety. Final score, M-A 30, Monterey 0. Next game, Friday, October 9, 4 pm, Sequoia High School at Sequoias' home field.

The defense was led by Bryce Rodgers with 8 tackles and 3 sacks, Tate Tussing with 7 tackles and an interception and Gershenberg with 8 tackles.
