Campus Changes
Welcome back! The campus will look slightly different as we have broken ground on the construction of our new two story G wing. Below are some changes to be aware of.
- For the first few weeks of school, three food service lines will be located temporarily in the snack shack on the turf field until two food service canteens arrive (one will be between the F and H wings and another in front of the M wing). We will continue to have food service on the blacktop and in the PAC Cafe. A map of food service locations is posted on our website at www.mabears.org.
- The temporary G wing is now located on the side of the turf field, behind the I building. There will be signage on the campus so students (and staff) will be able find their way around. On the first day of school, campus aides, administrators, and staff will be easily identifiable wearing maroon staff shirts so students will know who to ask for directions.
Thanks and we look forward to Tuesday!

¡Bienvenidos!

Guidance Counselors By Student Last Name
New Guidance Counselor Assignment by Student Last Name We have hired two new guidance counselors and have reconfigured the guidance counselor alphabet breakdown. The rationale for hiring two guidance counselors now was to avoid re-configuring the alphabet again in a few years. Our two new guidance counselors, Megan Corazza and Tram "Nikki" Dang, join the M-A guidance team with excellent references and high school counseling experience.
The new alphabet breakdown is listed below with an exception for class of 2016 seniors.
Note: For the class of 2016, if the new alphabet breakdown resulted in counselor reassignment, students will have the option of consulting with and / or requesting a college letter of recommendation from their previous counselor. This exception will only apply to the class of 2016.

After-School Tutors Needed
Academic tutors are needed for M-A's MyLife After-School Program (a collaboration between M-A, the Boys & Girls Club, and the San Francisco 49ers Academy) in the following subject areas: algebra 1, geometry, biology, English, world studies, and Spanish.
We ask for a commitment of at least once a week for one quarter, Monday-Thursday, 3:30-5 pm, at M-A. Students, this is a great opportunity to help your fellow students, boost those college applications, and earn gift cards of your choice based on attendance. Parents and community members, your support will make a difference. JUST ONE HOUR PER WEEK can make a difference in whether a student passes or fails a critical class!
If interested or to answer any questions, please contact Samantha Cortez, MyLife Coordinator, at scortez@bgcp.org. |

|
|
Travel to the Galápagos Islands and Ecuador in Summer 2016!
We are currently recruiting 12 to 14 M-A sophomore to senior students for a nine-day tour of the Galápagos Islands, which are most famous for the profound discoveries of Charles Darwin. In June, we will carry on that scientific tradition as we learn about the unique species that call the islands home. On mainland Ecuador, we will experience the local culture in Quito. Independence Plaza and the Intinan Museum will provide social context to the biological wonders of this fascinating country.

Stanford Adolescent Sleep Study
Stanford University is currently conducting a study to help teens (14-18) go to bed earlier and wake up earlier. The treatment involves use of a light device that is placed by the teen's bedside and flashes periodically throughout the night. Teens also meet for four sessions with a licensed psychologist at Stanford to learn about sleep and strategies to improve sleep. The paid study requires completing a sleep diary daily for five weeks. To participate, please contact the Zeitzer Laboratory at teensleep@stanford.edu or (650) 725-7767.

News About BearNotes & TriVocis
We are making some changes this year to BearNotes and TriVocis. - BearNotes is now mobile-friendly! BearNotes will now be a mobile-friendly weekly newsletter. Short articles will be published in full in the email newsletter. Longer articles will begin in the email newsletter, but then will continue on the M-A PTA website through a "Read More" link to the full article.
- BearNotes and TriVocis are now combined. To create a single source for all important M-A news, the articles typically published in TriVocis, like the Principal's Message and more in-depth articles about what's happening at M-A, will now be included in BearNotes. We'll include more student contributions to honor the original spirit of TriVocis: the voice for the PTA, school staff, and students.
We hope you like this new, more streamlined M-A school newsletter!

|
How to Submit Articles
Please keep articles short and focused. Longer TriVocis-style articles are welcome, but keep the most important info in the first paragraph. (Longer articles will show only the first paragraph in the BearNotes email and then continue on the M-A PTA website.)
- Email proofread submissions to bearnotes@mabearspta.org by Thursday midnight.
- Please do not send attachments. Send article content in the body of the email.
- Include details such as the event, date, time, location, contact info, and URL.
- Consider including a Spanish translation of your article for critical info. (Please email BearNotes if you need help with translation.)
- All submissions are subject to editing by the PTA.
For the PTA policies on BearNotes publication, please visit the M-A PTA website. M-A PTA does not endorse third-party events or submissions, nor take responsibility regarding the content of any third-party websites.
