Bear print Changes in the Guidance Office/Cambios en la Oficina de Consejería -

Two new guidance counselors have been hired and the guidance counselor alphabet breakdown has been reconfigured. Our two new guidance counselors, Megan Corazza and Tram "Nikki" Dang, join the M-A guidance team with excellent references and high school counseling experience.

The new alphabet breakdown is listed below with an exception for class of 2016 seniors. For the class of 2016, if the new alphabet breakdown resulted in counselor reassignment, students will have the option of consulting with and/or requesting a college letter of recommendation from their previous counselor. This exception will only apply to the class of 2016.

Sports Wrap-up

Track and FieldLast weekend at CCS Finals, the remaining four athletes competed well and made the coaches proud.

  • Marquise Reid started off the day with an 11th place finish in the long jump. He was the only sophomore in the field and competed well in his first CCS Finals, gaining important experience for his future big meets.
  • Kathryn Mohr finished 4th in the pole vault and easily cleared the bar at 11' 7", which was the automatic qualifier for state! Congrats to Kathryn for a return trip to state this weekend.
  • Annalisa Crowe also finished 4th in her event, the 800. She narrowly missed qualifying for state, but, she ran her best time of the season to end on a high note.
  • Adam Scandlyn also ran the 800 last night and placed 2nd, with a personal record of 1:55.92, just 0.05 seconds outside of 1st place. In one of the most exciting races of the night, Adam moved up to 4th place in M-A history in this event and qualified for state.

  • This weekend, the Bears had two athletes compete at the State Championship Meet

Adam Scandlyn ran a great 800, finishing in 1:55.39 (6th place in his heat at prelims) and a new personal record. His time placed him 19th overall (in the state!), missing finals but moving himself up to 3rd on M-A's all-time list. What a way to end his high school career!

Kathryn Mohr also had a great prelims meet in the pole vault. She cleared the opening height of 11'4 on her first attempt as well as clearing the next height (11'8) on her first attempt. Those vaults were good enough to place her in the top 12 and send her to finals. At finals, Kathryn continued to vault well. Competing against the other 11 best vaulters in the State, Kathryn more than held her own. She cleared the 1st two heights before stalling at 12'3. Kathryn's performance placed her 8th in California! What a season and what an accomplishment! Kathryn is the first M-A athlete to reach state finals in 8 years.

    Quote of the Week
    sunflower-sm.jpg

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.
