To the Menlo-Atherton community:

 

After 20 years of service to the students and families of Menlo-Atherton, Alice Kleeman will retire from her position as college advisor at the end of June. We have appreciated Alice's enthusiastic and professional assistance to M-A students, and we wish her well as she leaves to enjoy more time with her children and grandchildren and have a well-deserved rest from the hectic pace of the Career Center.

 

Alice has agreed to return to M-A next year on a part-time consulting basis to help make seamless the transition to the new college advisor. Although she will not work directly with individual students in this role, she will help our new college advisor tackle the varied responsibilities of the position and assist with the planning and implementation of a host of college-related activities. We're glad to say that she will not be a stranger to M-A.

 

Although Alice prefers to retire quietly without fanfare, she'll be happy to have you wish her well when you see her.

Después de 20 años de servicio a los alumnos y familias de Menlo-Atherton, Alice Kleeman se jubilará de su puesto como consejera de asuntos universitarios a finales de junio. Hemos agradecido la ayuda entusiasta y profesional de Alice a los estudiantes de M-A, y le deseamos lo mejor al irse a disfrutar de más tiempo con sus hijos y nietos y tomar un descanso bien merecido del ritmo caótico del College and Career Center. 

 

Alice ha aceptado volver a M-A el año que viene para hacer asesoramiento a tiempo parcial que ayudará a que la transición para el/la nuevo/a consejero/a de asuntos universitarios sea de lo más fluida. Aunque en este puesto no trabajará directamente con alumnos individuales, ayudará a nuestro/a nuevo/a consejero/a de asuntos universitarios a afrontar las numerosas responsabilidades del puesto y ayudará con la planificación y la realización de una gama de actividades relacionadas con la universidad. Nos alegra decir que no será una desconocida en M-A.

 

Aunque Alice prefiere jubilarse tranquilamente sin bombo y platillo, se alegrará con sus buenos deseos cuando la vean.

To the Menlo-Atherton community:

 

For the last 20 years I have enjoyed helping Menlo-Atherton students plan for their future; now it's time for me to step back, turn over the reins to someone new - and rest! My favorite accomplishments at M-A include serving as a cheerleader for students no matter what their future plans might be, minimizing the stress and anxiety around the college-admission process, developing a culture of respect for students who choose to begin their education in community college, nurturing the college aspirations of first-generation-to-college students through College Club and other outreach programs, and opening the minds of M-A students to the huge range of possibilities for higher education.

 

When the M-A administration asked if I would consider serving on a part-time basis as a consultant to my successor, I agreed enthusiastically. To whatever extent my successor wants or needs help, I will be there. Please feel confident that there will be a smooth transition next year, and that the new college advisor will continue to provide the best possible guidance to students looking ahead and planning their future. M-A's support of the college-advising process will remain strong. 

 

My thanks go to the students, parents, faculty and staff, the PTA, the Foundation, and the M-A administration for making my last 20 years so rewarding, both professionally and personally.

He disfrutado durante los últimos 20 años ayudando a los estudiantes de Menlo-Atherton a planear su futuro; ahora es el momento de retirarme y dejar que otro tome las riendas -- ¡y  descansar! Mis logros favoritos en M-A incluyen hacer de animadora para los estudiantes sin importar los planes futuros que pudieran tener, minimizar el estrés y ansiedad alrededor del proceso de admisión a la universidad, desarrollar una cultura de respeto para estudiantes que eligen empezar su educación en un colegio comunitario, alimentar las aspiraciones universitarias de estudiantes que serían la primera generación de su familia que iría a la universidad mediante el College Club y otros programas de participación, y abrir las mentes de los estudiantes de M-A a una amplia gama de posibilidades para la educación superior.

 

Cuando la dirección de M-A me preguntó si consideraría hacer de asesora para mi sucesor/a a tiempo parcial, acepté con entusiasmo. Para cualquier cosa que me necesite mi sucesor/a, allí estaré. Pueden estar tranquilos de que habrá una transición fluida el año que viene, y que el/la nuevo/a consejero/a de asuntos universitarios continuará proporcionando la mejor asesoría a los estudiantes que miren hacia delante y planifiquen su futuro. El apoyo de parte de M-A del proceso de consejería universitaria seguirá firme. 

 

Permítanme dar las gracias a los estudiantes, padres y madres, profesores y plantilla, la PTA, la Fundación, y la dirección de M-A por hacer que los últimos 20 años fueran tan gratificantes, tanto en lo profesional como en lo personal.
