PTA GENERAL MEETING - Please come to the second General PTA Meeting on Tuesday, October 7 at 8:45 a.m. in the PAC Cafeteria. The agenda highlights are:
- Discussion and vote on fall cycle of mini-grants for teachers and staff

VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED FOR CHALLENGE DAY - Challenge Day, a one-day workshop for the freshman class that promotes compassion, communication, and community building will take place Monday through Wednesday, October 27 to 29. Please help on any or all of the three days; it's a great way for parents of all students, whether freshmen or upperclassmen, to get involved at M-A. This one-day commitment helps M-A teens break down barriers and create new levels of empathy and respect. Volunteer any of these ways:
- Small Group Facilitator: 8:15 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (NEED 40 MORE VOLUNTEERS!)
- Registration: 8 - 9:15 a.m. (NEED 5 MORE)

- Facility Clean-up: 3 - 3:30 p.m. (NEED 8 MORE)
There will be a group facilitator training session on Tuesday, October 14 from 7 to 8 p.m. in the PAC Cafeteria. Pick the role and the date(s) that work best for you, and email your volunteer preference (be sure to specify the date) to Rachel Lokey and Lauren Calhoon at challengeday@mabearspta.org. Thank you for making a difference in the students' lives.

M-A PARENT EDUCATION SERIES
If you attended the presentation on perseverence by Dr. Kent Pekel on September 17, Search Institute would appreciate your feedback! Here is a link to its very brief Presentation and Workshop Feedback Form. If you missed the presentation and would like Dr. Pekel's detailed handout on perseverance, please contact Charlene Margot, M-A Parent Education Series, Program Director, at cmargot@csmconsulting.net or 650-868-0590.
The PTA hopes to continue the conversation on perseverance by bringing Dr. Pekel back to M-A this winter to address faculty and staff. Many thanks to The Esther Ting Foundation for its generous gift to make this event possible.

WHO'S COACHING OUR BEARS? Take a look at the "Coach's Spotlight," found on the M-A Boosters website, where you can meet some of the amazing men and women who lead and guide our athletes to success on and off the field. This week, meet Coach Alan Perry.
In addition, the M-A Athletic Boosters Board just completed our fall granting session; money raised from your donations has been distributed to M-A sports teams to purchase uniforms, equipment, and fund coaching stipends. These grants ensure that M-A's athletic programs are something of which to be proud. Go Bears! Thank you so very much for your support.
Athletic clearance packets for winter sport athletes are due Monday, November 3. For information on completing and submitting the clearance packet, please visit BearsAthletics.
