Bear print M-A TODAY! BACK ON THE AIR! - M-A Today! is M-A's video announcement show for students, by students. It streamed over the web all last year. You can watch the show live most Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:45 a.m. on High School Cube. Subscribe to M-A's YouTube channel to view all the episodes. Thank you for watching and supporting M-A Today!

Bear print ENGLISH LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT (ELD) TUTORS NEEDED! Do you have two hours a week to help tutor students who are working hard to improve their English? The ELD program has students from many different countries, but the majority of students speak Spanish as their native language. M-A's Hispanic Outreach Initiative program received the prestigious Apple Award last year for its achievements in engaging Hispanic parents and families in their children's education. Because of this great success, the program will be emulated by schools across the state. You do not need foreign language experience. The ELD teacher will give you a plan for each class meeting. You will work with two to three students with the goal of helping them improve in spoken and written English. Over the course of a semester, you will get to know them and see their progress. This is a very rewarding program for both students and their tutors. Volunteers are needed for ELD classes during one of these periods:

  • Wednesday third period: 11:15 a.m. to 12:55 p.m.
  • Thursday second period: 9:40 to 11:20 a.m.

History/Life Skills class tutors with ELD students (new this year) are also needed:

  • Thursday sixth period:  1:40 to 3:15 p.m.

If you are interested, please email eldtutoring@mabearspta.org.

Bear print VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR CHALLENGE DAY! BE THE CHANGE!  Join freshmen on

Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, October 27, 28, or 29 for this memorable one-day workshop that promotes compassion, communication, and community building among the Class of 2018. It's a great way for parents of all students (not just freshmen) to get involved at M-A. This one-day commitment helps teens break down barriers and create new levels of empathy and respect. Come participate in one of the most meaningful volunteer opportunities of the year.

Adult volunteers are critical to the program's success. Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Small Group Facilitator (most needed):  8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Registration:  8 to 9 a.m.
  • Lunch:  11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

To volunteer, pick the role and date which works best for you, and then e-mail your preference (specify the date) to Rachel Lokey and Lauren Calhoon at challengeday@mabearspta.org. Please put "Challenge Day Volunteer" in the subject line. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of M-A students!
