FOUND FOR FUTURE

Name a Seat for Your Senior Student

Parents of graduating M-A seniors: Your senior has worked hard and has had a rewarding experience during his or her four years at M-A. This is your chance to honor your student's years at M-A and support a great cause in the process. the Foundation is offering an opportunity to name individual seats at the PAC on behalf of your senior. You can name a seat for:

  • Your graduating senior
  • Your entire family
  • A favorite M-A teacher

Money raised is donated to the "M-A Fund for the Arts," which directly supports performance, visual, and media arts-related needs at M-A. The money funds courses, personnel, equipment, and supplies for drama, band, guitar, video production, web design, and fine arts.

This is a chance to leave a lasting mark for your son or daughter at M-A. Your senior's, family's, or teacher's name will appear on a plaque on the seat armrest. Three seat-naming financial levels are available, and your donation level determines the location of your seat.

For more details on how to name a seat, go to the website, send an email to seatsales@TheCenteratMA.org, or call Stephen Fioretti at (650) 283-2710.

The Clock Is Winding Down

If you have not yet donated to the M-A Foundation this year, time is running out, but you still have time to make a difference in the lives of the M-A students. The Foundation welcomes a donation of any amount to help fund vital programs and personnel. Help make every day a great day at M-A!

To donate online, visit the website and click on "Donate Now." Or, mail a check to Foundation for the Future, P.O. Box 1228, Menlo Park, CA 94026. Questions? Contact Cindy Folker at cfolker@seq.org or 650-322-5311, ext. 50206.

Join us for an exceptional evening with Dr. Kent Pekel, President and CEO of Search Institute. The Developmental Assets® framework created by Search Institute is the most widely used approach to positive youth development in the United States and, increasingly, around the world. Search Institute's newest research-to-practice initiative focuses on strengthening "Developmental Relationships" that help young people attain the psychological and social skills needed to live well and thrive.

The presentation will include a short video featuring the stories of M-A students impacted by adult mentors, a keynote address by Kent Pekel, and a moderated Q & A with Lisa Medoff, Ph.D., Stanford University, and Chris Rubin, Director of M-A's Computer Academy.

Please register here for the event. SUHSD parents, students, faculty/staff, and community members welcome! Spanish interpretation will be available.

SPORTS WRAP-UP

Bear print VARSITY BASEBALL M-A (13-8, 5-3) split 2 league games to move into a second place tie with Carlmont in the PAL Bay Division, 1 game behind first place Terra Nova. In the first game, Erik Amundson hurled a complete-game 4-hitter with 11 strikeouts as M-A edged host Burlingame 4-3. The senior right-hander also had a productive day at the plate, going 2-for-4 (including a triple, his third of the season) and scoring a run. M-A's 10-hit attack also featured 2-for-3 performances from Brett Moriarty and Daniel Kollar-Gasiewski. Moriarty knocked in a run (his 15th) and scored a run, and designated hitter Kollar-Gasiewski also scored a run for the Bears. Matt McGarry (double), Lawson Joos, Nikolai Tarran, and Jordan Long added hits for M-A, with Joos also producing a sacrifice-fly RBI.

In the second game, M-A rallied to force extra innings, but a wild pitch in the bottom of the 8th allowed host Carlmont to score the game-winner as the Scots edged the Bears 3-2. Trailing 2-0, M-A scored solo runs in the 6th and 7th to send the game into extra innings. The Bears threatened to take the lead in the top of the 8th, but stranded 2 base runners. In the bottom of the 8th, Carlmont's leadoff hitter singled to left, advanced to second on a passed ball, took third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a wild pitch by M-A's Amundson. Amundson (6-3) had entered the contest in the top of the 8th in relief of starting pitcher McGarry. McGarry allowed just 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits over the first 7 innings, striking out 7 and walking 3. M-A outhit Carlmont 7-6, led by Brett Moriarty (double, single) and Leo McCabe (2 singles). Joos, Long (double), and AJ Lemons (pinch-hit RBI single) also had hits for the Bears. M-A failed to take advantage of several opportunities throughout the contest, leaving 12 runners on base.

Bear print GIRLS SOFTBALL - On Wednesday the Bears lost to San Mateo 11-1. San Mateo used an efficient and methodical attack, getting timely hits and taking advantage of walks and 5 Bear errors to score 3 runs in the first, 5 runs in the second, 2 runs in the fourth, and 1 run in the fifth, despite totaling only 6 hits for the game. The Bears managed only 3 hits in the game, scoring in the first inning on a single by Emily Katz, a walk to Erin Goode, and a run-scoring single by Sarah Tiemann. The teams only other hit came in the fifth inning, a triple by Alice Coleman, but the Bears couldn't bring her home.

The Bear offense came alive against Summit on Saturday, with 11 different players reaching base in a 16-4 win. The attack was lead by Katz with 2 hits and 3 RBI and leadoff hitter Tiemann, who reached base 4 times, scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 runs with 2 hits. Maddie Zamora had 2 hits and drove in a run, and Tanya Lazaro had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Monika Gutierrez and Taylor Conrad also had run-scoring hits. 3 Bear pitchers combined for the win. Katz had 6 strikeouts in two innings, Conrad went two innings with 4 strikeouts, and Victoria Sanie pitched a scoreless inning.

Bear print SWIMMING On a cool Thursday afternoon, the M-A swimming Bears traveled to Aragon in San Mateo. It was a great afternoon for the Bears who shut out the Dons, making this the second week in a row that all 4 M-A teams ruled the day. The girls Varsity team is now 5-0 in PAL, while the boys Varsity is 4-1 in PAL and our JV swimmers are undefeated at 5-0 PAL. This week the Bears take on the Burlingame Panthers in their home pool on Thursday, May 1 at 3:30 p.m.

Bear print TRACK & FIELD -  The Bears fought through a tough week of practice, windy conditions, and solid competition for some impressive performances. The Lady Bears dominated the competition and won the Serra Invitational for the second straight year. The girls' team scored 98.5 points, 35 more than the second place team. Below are some of the best performances:
