There will be a training for new and current acolytes tomorrow, February 27th at 10 a.m. in the church. Afterwards we will go to the Padaro Grill for lunch and fun! If your child is interested in being an acolyte, please contact George & Sally Messerlian at [email protected]. Your child must be in 4th grade or older to be an acolyte.

I was so moved the other day when I saw the Lenten transformation of our chancel. I was immediately taken to the desert to be with Jesus. I could feel my heart open. I was taken back to an arid wadi that I had walked in the Holy Land, a specific location across from where it is believed that Jesus spent his time in the wilderness. I witnessed that expanse of space at sunrise one morning. Never had I been in such quiet or sat so still for so long. It felt as if I could breathe in the breath of God and exhale a vibrant energy. Not being there now, this is a wonderful next thing, a worship space which exudes a stark reminder and drama of the desert experience of Jesus. God incarnate chose such a place to grow with this father. And, I can simply walk across the street from my office and be in it. May we all experience a blessed Lent.

M-4 Churches & Westmont Host Forum on Global Refugee Crisis, This Sunday Evening, February 28 at
Montecito Covenant Church

 On Sunday evening, February 28 at 6 p.m. the M-4 churches along with Westmont College are hosting a forum on the causes and responses to the global refugee crisis with keynote speaker Rev. Steve Haas, Chief Catalyst from World Vision (WV). The two dimensions of the presentation will be what a Christian response is to the refugee crisis and how are we, as followers of Jesus, to engage with these insecure communities around our world.
The event begins at 6:00 p.m. with a soup supper in the Peterson Family Life Center at Montecito Covenant Church (671 Cold Springs Rd) with the presentation starting at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. The entire Santa Barbara community is invited, so please let your friends know. A freewill offering is welcomed.
World Vision is well known for over 65 years of excellence in providing Christian humanitarian relief and development to impoverished communities worldwide. Recently, World Vision discovered that out of nearly 100 countries in which WV does its work, 31 could be considered as "fragile states." There are 52 Fragile States globally that are characterized by fractured infrastructure, high infant mortality, poor sanitation and health, flagging educational opportunity, insufficient water resources, civil conflict, injustice, and government corruption. |

Sanctuary Tour - This Sunday after each service!

"Why do I need to take a tour of the sanctuary? I sit in church every Sunday!" If this thought has crossed your mind, well, please think again. More than 120 parishioners have taken a sanctuary tour to receive an update on the plans to preserve our beautiful and history sanctuary and to ready it for the next 100 years of worship. The next opportunity for a sanctuary tour is February 28th after both the 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. services. If you are interested in a tour, just meet at the Bell Tower after the service.

Do you make a delicious soup? Soups are needed!
During the winter months, soups are still needed to feed those who attend the weekly Eventide service on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. Soup containers are available for those who wish to make soup. If you have taken a soup container home, please return it to the Parish Hall kitchen hopefully with soup in it, as a few containers are missing.

Altar Guild Needs You!
Altar Guild training for new and current Altar Guild members will be on Saturday, March 12th at 9:00 a.m. in the church. If you are interested in being on Altar Guild, please contact Linda Chapman ( [email protected]) or come to the March 12th training. |
 Lent has arrived and with it comes the church season when we look within ourselves to understand our spiritual relationship to God and how we might draw closer. Lent is a time when we practice certain disciplines that enable us to fully look forward to and experience the impact of the cross and Easter.
To aid our spiritual journey, All Saints is offering a Lenten Class based on the book by James W. Moore, Give Up Something Bad for Lent. Join us from Wednesdays from 7:15 - 8:45 p.m. or Thursdays from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. in the Parish House for the next four weeks: March 2/3,9/10, and 16/17. Fifteen copies of the book have been ordered and will be available at the Book Table (on the patio each Sunday) for $10.00.

All Saints Cottage Available for Rent

 The cottage owned by the church has unexpectedly became available and Carlos and Miguel are making the final repairs and upgrades before it goes on the market. Before we advertise it to the public we would like to give the congregation an opportunity to express interest in the property. If you are interested in renting the cottage or would like more information, please contact Kathleen immediately ( [email protected] or 969-4771) as we will be posting this listing on Craig's List as of Friday, March 4th.

Book Table News & Lenten Resources!

The Book Table will be offering thoughtful options for our journey through Lent. On it you will find items from the Forward Movement including daily devotional booklets, a Lenten Map Calendar, the Lent Madness Guide and Saintly Scorecard, and more; from Episcopal Relief and Development their 2016 Lenten Meditations; Fasting Prayer Cubes; and other books and publications. The Book Table will also carry our usual selection of Prayer Books, Bibles, and inspirational reading. This Sunday we will continue special sale section with a variety of books marked 30-40% off during Lent. Our Book Table will be on the patio every Sunday through Easter after worship services.
 Lent Madness Returns! "Taking our faith yet not ourselves too seriously is the essence of Lent Madness..." Join with others across our nation for a rousing online experience to determine which competing saint will win the Golden Halo for 2016 sponsored by the Forward Movement. During Lent, 32 saints are placed in a tournament-style single elimination bracket. Each pairing remains open for 24 hours, and people vote online for their favorite saint. Sixteen saints make it to the Saintly Sixteen; eight advance to the Elate Eight; four make it to the Faithful Four; two to the Championship; and the winner is awarded the coveted Golden Halo. Fulfilling Your Wishes: Planning for the end of life

 Don't miss this special event presented by Jim Murphy, Managing Program Director for the Episcopal Church Foundation, and the Rev. Aimee Eyer-Delevett, on Friday, March 11th at 5 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Jim Murphy will explain estate planning, reviewing what medical care you may desire if you are incapacitated, and how you wish to be remembered by your loved ones. Rev. Celebrate St. Patrick's Day at All Saints!

 St. Patrick's Day Dinner at All Saints is just around the corner! Join us for our annual St. Patrick's celebration on Thursday, March 17th at 6:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Connie Lindberg is making her fabulous Irish Stew for our entree and parishioners are invited to bring appetizers, salads, sides, desserts, and beverages (beer, wine or soda) to share. Tap your feet to the rousing music provided by Robert Brown and Patrick Hackney. Families and friends are welcome! Join us for a great evening of fun and fellowship and don't forget to wear green! Community Kitchen: Every 1st, 3rd, 4th & 5th Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.; serve a simple lunch at Casa Esperanze Homeless Shelter.
Victoria Hotel: Every Tuesday & Thursday evenings; drive Victoria Hotel manager to Community Kitchen to pick up hot meals to veteran, disabled, and low-income residents.

An Invitation to Holy Week & Easter
|

Holy Week begins on Sunday, March 20 with Palm Sunday. All are lovingly invited to celebrate and participate in Holy Week at All Saints.
Palm Sunday - March 20: We will begin our worship at 8 a.m. in the sanctuary and at 10 a.m. on the lawn in front of the church office (across the street from the church)
Maundy Thursday - March 24: The evening will commemorate the Lord's Last Supper. We will gather in the Parish Hall for a potluck meal at 5 p.m. and worship together at 6 p.m. A sign-up for the potluck supper can be found on the Information Table after church this Sunday.
An all night vigil will commence immediately following the Maundy Thursday service. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend an hour with Jesus! Sign up today for your hour of choice at the Information Table on the patio after church Sunday.
Good Friday - March 25: We will worship together at Noon and 6 p.m. During this service, we establish our connection with the betrayal, abandonment, and agony of the events of Good Friday.
The Great Vigil of Easter - Saturday, March 26: We will gather outside to light the paschal fire and prepare ourselves for Jesus' resurrection at 7:30 p.m.
Easter Day - Sunday, March 27: We will gather for a chorale Eucharist at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., with baptism at the 8 a.m. service.
