February 20, 2015
Greetings!

Sunday, March 1st, marks the one-year anniversary of God, Music and Fun, a monthly musical learning events for children and their families. Each month, after Family Feast, we gather in the Parish Hall to sing, dance, play musical instruments and to participate in rhythm activities (the Boom-Whackers are especially cool).

Through the medium of music, children learn the stories of God's saving work in the world. Geared to early elementary and elementary-age children and their parents, participants learn the primary building blocks of making music and have opportunities to express themselves through music making, both on an individual and group ensemble basis, in an environment that is creative and fun!

Stick around after Family Feast next Sunday and join in the fun!!
Join in Welcoming Bishop Diane Jardin Bruce This Sunday, Feb 22

Please join together in welcoming Bishop Diane Jardin Bruce this coming Sunday, February 22 as she visits All Saints.  She will preach and preside during both worship services.

Family Feast and God, Music & Fun
Sunday, March 1

The first Sunday of the month, children of all ages and their parents are invited to join together in the Parish Hall at 10 a.m. for "Family Feast," a service of worship and communion designed especially for families with children and teens. See you next Sunday in the Parish Hall! Contact the Rev. Vicki Mouradian at [email protected] for more information.

Preschool students discovered the wonders of Ash Wednesday this week during chapel. A student imposes ashes on her mother's forehead. It was an awe inspiring morning in chapel.
Lent at All Saints
On Sunday, you may notice our sanctuary and altar look different this season. The flowers have been replaced with succulents and river rocks to remind us of an arid desert. This is because the season of Lent offers us a gracious opportunity to examine our lives in order to identify where we fall short so that we can turn wills back toward God, whose nature is always to have mercy. Lent is an occasion to consider our spiritual health and deepen our spiritual lives. We do this by choosing well our Lenten disciplines that leads us more deeply into a relationship with God and one another. This Lent, All Saints offers many opportunities to deepen your walk with Christ. Through seasonal opportunities for worship, devotion, and study, we hope you will find yourself not only willing but able to please God and participate more fully in the work of God's kingdom.

Eventide During Lent

As we enter the season of Lent, I'm reminded of the words of Oscar Wilde, in his De Profundis (out of the depths):

Out of the depths I cry to thee, O Lord!

Lord, hear my voice!

Let thy ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications!

The holy season of Lent bears with it poignant symbols for the Church, including;

Water and Bread

Thirst and Hunger

Light and Darkness

Nakedness and Clothing

Suppression of Alleluia

Our weekly Eventide service is a time where the All Saints' Community of God's friends gathers to pray, share, sing, rejoice and become, as God calls us. Modeled after the ancient Vespers Office, the service revolves around ancient symbols, interpretive "windows" into the presence of the transcendent God. Everyone is invited to the Wednesday 6:00 p.m. Eventide, as we experience the ancient symbols and retell the ancient stories of this Holy Season of Lent.

Lent Madness Has Begun - But It's Never Too Late to Participate!
Saint David Oakerhater

"Every single one of the saints was a flawed human. You might be used to seeing them in stained glass or in marble, but they were living, breathing, people not so different from us. And yet, each one of these saints managed to allow God's grace to work in them such that Christ's light shone brightly in their lives. They were witnesses to the world of the transforming love of Jesus Christ. ...Perhaps they will inspire you to follow Jesus in new ways, so that you can be a witness of the Good News of God in Christ." Click here to learn more.
Lenten Resources Available at Book Table

Rev. Vicki has stocked it with fresh titles and Lenten resources for all ages - including A Grown-Up Lent, Journey Through Lent, Lent Madness booklets and brackets, and Lent Cubes (what's that? Find out at the book table - they are amazing). Be sure to stop by and stock up!

Lent at Home: Spirit-filled Practices for Families

Lent is a great time to integrate spiritual practices into family life. This Lenten calendar of daily practices for families provides a daily activity or subject for reflection, taking the busy lives of families into account. This Lenten offering helps individuals and families find meaningful answers to the question, "What should I give up or take on for Lent?" by outlining a season's worth of ways that children and adults can engage in the Lenten practices of prayer, fasting and service.
